Li Junjie - 李俊杰

Mr. Li was introduced to Falun Gong in June 1996. Shortly after he did the exercises, his conditions disappeared and he enjoyed good health from then on.
Because of not giving up Falun Gong, however, he and his wife, Ms. Xie Qimin was repeatedly arrested and detained. The authorities twice forced his employer to fire him.
With the couple arrested and detained one after another, their two daughters were often left at home alone and discriminated at school.
The persecution took a toll on Mr. Li’s health. He passed away in 2014, at the age of 52.
Repeated Arrests and Detention
Mr. Li was arrested twice in October 1999 for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. While he escaped after the first arrest, he was held in custody and sent back home on the second time. After one month of detention at Yongqing County Detention Center, he was given one year of forced labor.
Meanwhile he was held in the detention center, his workplace, the Tonghui Chemical Company, was forced by the authorties to fire him.
Two months after Mr. Li was released from the labor camp, the police ransacked his home and arrested him again in December 2000. He held a hunger strike in the detention center for six days. The police extorted 600 yuan from his family before releasing him.
Mr. Li found a job to sell auto parts to support his family. After the local 610 Office found out about it, they went to the shop he worked at and took him to a brainwashing center in December 2001. With his wife was still serving a labor camp term, their two daughters, 11 and 7, were left at home alone. Mr. Li escaped five days later.
The 610 Office held another brainwashing session five months later. They sent Mr. Li to it, with the excuse that he hadn’t renounced Falun Gong yet.
The guards didn’t allow Mr. Li to sleep for three days and forced him to stand in the rain, claiming to “clear his head.” Mr. Li protested the arbitrary detention with a hunger stike and was released five days later.
He was taken to another brainwashing session on December 3, 2003. This time, he was held there for more than 20 days and wasn’t released until he was on the verge of death from hunger strike.
The repeated harassment and detention left Mr. Li in deep distress. He left home and moved to Bazhou City (about 30 miles away), where he found a job as the head of a steel company.
But the authorities never gave up to persecute Mr. Li. They arrested him again on December 13, 2011 and held him at a local brainwashing center for four days.
The 610 Office forced the steel company to fire him again.
With their daughters going to college and parents getting older, Mr. Li’s family was left in dire situation after he lost his job. This time, he was struck down by the pressure. He became withdrawl and depressed. His eyes were dull. He didn’t have an appetite, had trouble falling asleep and suffered declined memory.
He often shouted at night, “I’m so afraid!” But when his wife asked him what he was afraid of, he remained silent.
His health quickly deterioated. He passed away on June 1, 2014.
