Ren Fuxian - 任福贤
(Minghui.org) Mr. Ren Fuxian was an associate professor of mathmetics at Nanjing University in Jiangsu Province. He wrote many academic papers and textbooks and won multiple teaching awards, but he had to retire early because of his poor health.
His Tuberculosis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and other ailments, however, disappeared two months after he picked up the practice of Falun Gong in late 1997.
When he attended an event in 2002 to celebrate his university's anniversary, his former students and colleagues were all stunned to see he looked so healthy and energetic. He told them that Falun Gong gave him a second life.
Mr. Ren and his wife were arrested on December 15, 2011 while distributing calendars bearing messages about Falun Gong. The couple was sent to Gulou District Brainwashing Center. The police confiscated their house key and ransacked their residence when no one was around. They didn't return the key until one week later.
The couple was released fifteen days later but were subjected to long-term monitoring, including phone tapping, in the years that followed.
The couple filed a lawsuit on June 16, 2015 against former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. Between August and October that year, the police twice came to harasss the couple at home for filing the lawsuit.
The police harassed the couple three times in 2016. The first time was in early June when the police called them to demand that they go to the local police station to have their blood drawn and fingerprints taken. They refused. Half a month later, several officers showed up at the couple's home, but Mr. Ren and his wife firmly refused to give their blood samples and fingerprints. Days later, several police officers came again, and this time the couple refused to open the door. The police threatened to return the following day with a locksmith.
Such frequent harassment took a toll on Mr. Ren's health and he passed away on December 24, 2016.
