Li Gang - 李钢
(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Gang and his wife, Ms. Xiao Lianhong, were repeatedly arrested for their faith in Falun Gong. In 2002, the couple was held in a brainwashing center for several months.
Both Mr. Li and Ms. Xiao were given two years of forced labor in 2008. Mr. Li was forced to do unpaid labor at Tuanhe Labor Camp. The skin on his legs festered and oozed pus. He quickly recovered after he was released in 2010 and resumed doing Falun Gong exercises.
The police called the couple in 2011 and asked to have a talk with them. In order to avoid arrests, the couple left home and wandered about in the next six years.
About five officers broke into the couple's home at 6:15 a.m. on July 21, 2016. Ms. Xiao was arrested while Mr. Li managed to escape. The police went to Mr. Li's workplace and stayed there for three days to try to catch him. He was again forced to leave home. About three weeks later, the police ordered Mr. Li's apartment complex management to throw all his valuables, including furniture and computer into a basement.
Mr. Li kept seeking his wife's release, but Ms. Xiao was sentenced to two years in prison in January 2017. Her sentence was reduced by one year in March upon appeal. She finished serving her term and returned home on July 20, 2017.
On October 14, 2017, Ms. Xiao's sister called her saying that the police wanted to have a talk with her. She didn't want to go but worried that her sister may have been threatened. She went to her sister's home but was immediately arrested by the waiting police.
She was taken to a hotel room, where she was watched by police during the day and accompanied by her sister at night. They threatened to arrest her sister if she escaped.
Mr. Li was traumatized by his wife's arrest. His legs that were once injured during his intention began to fester again. He had trouble walking. He had a stroke on December 12, 2017 and died hours later.
