Wang Lianjun - 王连军
(Minghui.org) A resident of Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province became paralyzed after being beaten by a police officer in 2002 for not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Despite his physical condition, Mr. Wang Lianjun was sentenced to three years in Duyun Prison. By the time he was released in April 2005, he was emaciated, deaf and blind. He couldn't talk clearly. Yet the authorities still put him on house arrest and ordered his father- and brother-in-law to monitor him and prevent him from going to the hospital.
After four years of miserable suffering, Mr. Wang passed away on February 6, 2009. He was 55.
Two years after Mr. Wang passed away, his wife Ms. Zhu Xiuying also died from the tremendous suffering of the family, leaving behind their two daughters and a son.
Beaten to Paralysis, Then Sentenced to Prison
Mr. Wang was arrested in April 2002 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong.
While he was detained at Liupanshui City No.1 Detention Center, officer Song Xuedong savagely beat him and inflicted severe injuries in his neck and sciatic nerve. He became paralyzed and couldn't stand anymore.
Although Mr. Wang's physical condition wasn't suitable for continued incarceration, the judge at Zhongshan District Court still sentenced him to three years and ordered him to serve time at Duyun Prison.
He spent most of the time at the prison's hospital. The staff from the prison's special ward tasked to persecute Falun Gong often came and attempted to pressure him to renounce his faith.
Put on House Arrest and Monitored by His In-laws
Mr. Wang was reduced to only skin and bones when he was released in April 2005. Though 5'11'' tall, he was less than 110 lbs. His neck had two holes and bruises of being strangulated. He didn't only lose his hearing and vision, but also the ability to talk. He could only make very weak and indistinct mumbling that others couldn't understand. He was incontinent and confined to bed.
Despite his condition, the local 610 Office, Domestic Security Division and village administration still put him on house arrest. They replaced the decorative fence with a tall wall all around his house. Meanwhile, they paid his father-in-law, Zhu Shaoming, and brother-in-law, Zhu Qijin, a low-income subsidy to monitor him.
The authorities didn't allow Mr. Wang to go to the hospital to receive treatment, or receive visitors from anyone. Any local Falun Gong practitioner who came to visit him would be reported.
During the time Mr. Wang was bedridden, his wife, Ms. Zhu Xiuying, took meticulous care of him and their three school-age children. In addition to the frequent harassment from the authorities, she had to deal with pressure and humiliation from her father and brother.
Years of the physical and mental hardship took a toll on her health. Two years after Mr. Wang passed away, she also died in 2011.
