Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Yuyuan, a Changchun City, Jilin Province resident, was taken to Chaoyang District Court on July 1, 2019 without her family's knowledge. Her son was asked to pick her up at 4 that afternoon. She collapsed the moment she returned home and died at around 9 a.m. on July 3.

Ms. Zhang was first arrested on March 2, 2003 and given one year of forced labor. The police ransacked her home multiple times in early 2019. Two local detention centers both refused to take her because of her high blood pressure, but the police kept harassing her at home and sent her case to Chaoyang District Procuratorate.

Chief Wang Jihao of Qinghejie Police Station sent officers Jiang Lai, Meng Sai, Zheng Pengsheng, and Yin Zhiwu to arrest Ms. Zhang on April 20, 2019. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, a laptop, three printers, among other valuables. She was taken to Weizigou Detention, which declined to take her due to her high blood pressure. The police had to send her home.

The same group of officers came again on May 5 and sent her to the Fourth Detention Center this time. Again, she was rejected admission due to her high blood pressure. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from her husband before releasing her.

Officer Jiang Lai came at 7 a.m. on June 24 and took her to Chaoyang District Procuratorate. Prosecutor Lin Haifeng gave her a document that stated that she would be indicted later. Jiang said she would not be allowed to step out of her home before July 5 and she should be on standby and report to police whenever asked.

Officer Meng Sai called her son on June 30 asking him to bring his mother to Chaoyang District Court on July 1. Her son said it was impossible for him to take time off work that day. Meng then suggested that his father take his mother to court. Her son replied that his father needed to work too.

On the afternoon of July 1, Ms. Zhang's son received a call from the court asking him to pick his mother up. Ms. Zhang collapsed as soon as they got back home and couldn't talk at all. Her son called the court to ask what they had done to his mother, who was perfectly fine that morning before he went to work. A woman staff member said he should send his mother to hospital. He demanded they be responsible and she said the police station should be responsible.

Ms. Zhang's son called officer Meng, who said the court should be responsible.

Ms. Zhang's husband and son rushed her to the hospital. She died on July 3.
