76-Year-Old Sichuan Woman Dies in the Persecution of Falun Gong
Ms. Li Houpei, of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, died on January 30, 2024. She was 76.
Ms. Li was arrested in June 2007 and sentenced to 11 years in December that year. She was arrested again on February 18, 2022 while distributing Falun Gong materials. The police raided her home and released her in the evening. Her last arrest was in May 2023 at another practitioner’s home. Although the police released her hours later, they kept coming back to harass her and threatened her not to travel out of town. They also submitted her case to the local procuratorate, in an attempt to get her sentenced. Crushed by the mental pressure, she passed away eight months later.
