Case Description:
Mr. Zhang Junhe, 36, lived at Wangying Village, Wei County, Hebei Province. On September 28, 2002, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, officers from the local police station and villager Zhang Sanyun broke into his house and found Falun Gong books and exercise tapes. Mr. Zhang was arrested and taken to the Wei County Police Station, and then sent to the Wei County Detention Center. One month later, with the help of the village party secretary he was released after he was fined 10,000 yuan. Zhang Junhe lost a lot weight and was diagnosed with diabetes by doctors. On the eve of the Chinese National Day in 2004, Zhang Sanyun, Zhang Qingzi, Li Chenzhong and Zhang Hai, (an accountant who died of debilitation) broke into Zhang Junhe's house while no one was at home. They found a Falun Gong book, threatened Zhang's family, and extorted 800 yuan from them. Zhang Junhe became severely sick after several extortions and the long-term persecution. He died on January 28, 2004, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, and left behind an 11 year old son.
