Case Description:
Ms. Zhan Jie from the Daoli District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, passed away at home on the afternoon of November 21, 2019.
She was previously incarcerated in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison for nine years and brutally abused.
Ms. Zhan and Ms. Li Shuangfeng were arrested on September 12, 2017. Ms. Zhan developed illness symptoms and was later diagnosed with tuberculosis. She was released on bail. The police went to her home on numerous occasions to harass her and attempted to arrest her again. To avoid incessant harassment Ms. Zhan had to leave town and became displaced.
Before she died, she was under tremendous pressure.
