Case Description:

Ms. Xiao Yafang resided at Huangtupu Town, Qidong County, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. She was only thirty years old when she died. Simply for practicing Falun Gong, Xiao Yafang was illegally detained for over two years by the Qidong County Public Security Bureau.

Ms. Xiao was beaten by the  guards. As a result of the torture, she lost consciousness. She was beaten until her face was shapeless and the torture eventually reduced her to an emaciated shell. She was on the verge of dying.

When she was released, she could hardly take care of herself, rendered extremely feeble physically. Twice her family sent her to the hospital emergency room. The first time, she had to spend over ten thousand yuan before she could finally be discharged from the hospital. However, her health situation was still not improved. Her family again sent her to the emergency room. Nonetheless, since she had been tortured so severely in detention, she died in her home at the end of September 2004.
