Wang Zhiming - 王志明
Mr. Wang Zhiming, 39 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner with the Tuanjiehu practice site, Chaoyang District, Beijing. He used to work as a translator for the Import and Export Division, China Garments Group Company.
After July 20, 1999, he was frequently and illegally imprisoned for appealing to the Appeals Office authorities, for going to Tiananmen Square to appeal, and for practicing the exercises outdoors. In July 2001 he left Beijing for his hometown in Shanxi Province to resist the persecution where he was much involved in making truth-clarifying materials. Shanxi Province police arrested and detained him many times, but, with righteous thoughts, he managed to get free, time and time again. Once when his case involved over 10,000 truth-clarifying CDs, still he managed to get free with righteous thoughts and a hunger strike protest.
The last time he was detained, the judge said that he would sentence Wang Zhiming to five years imprisonment during the illegal trial. Wang Zhiming kept silent in the court and firmly resisted the evil. In the end, the court hastily wound up the matter. By that time, Wang Zhiming had been on a hunger strike continuously for more than 60 days, and he was extremely weak. The police were afraid of undertaking the responsibility and sent him to a hospital. According to the doctor, due to delay in treatment, Wang Zhiming's brain had already withered.
Wang Zhiming died at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on July 22. According to witnesses, the police remained at the site to monitor the situation until after Wang Zhiming's body was cremated.
