Following the successful conclusion of the Asia Pacific Experience Sharing Conference and the parade through Taipei City, the Taiwan Falun Gong Research Society organized a human rights seminar in the Taiwanese Government Legislative Building on December 26, 2000. Over 200 guests, including several prominent society members who are active in promoting human rights, practitioners from all over the world and media, attended the seminar.
The four guest speakers who spoke during the seminar were: Chen Lung-chu, the Directory of the Lung-chu Chen New Century Foundation, Peter W. H. Huang, the former Chairman of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, X. H. Yang, the President of Taiwan News, and Chien Hsi-chieh, a Taiwan Legislator and Executive Director of the Peace-time Foundation of Taiwan. Each speaker made a strong impression on the audience, both by clarifying what is taking place inside of China, as well as by expressing their whole-hearted support for Falun Dafa practitioners.
Two Falun Dafa practitioners also spoke at the seminar, describing their experiences in being detained, beaten, and tortured at the hands of the P.R.C. These practitioners were Mr. Zhou Zhiming, of the United States, and Ms. Zhang Cuiying, of Australia. Their statements included an appeal to the Chinese Communist Party for the release of all detained Falun Gong practitioners, and to uphold the human rights of all practitioners in China.
Chang Ching-hsi, an Economics professor at the Taiwan University, the host of the event as well as the Director of the Taiwan Falun Gong Research Society, thanked the four guests and presented each of them with a copy of Zhuan Falun and Essentials for Further Advancement.
The event was given full coverage by local media, and the room was full of video cameras. Following the presentations, several practitioners were interviewed by the media.
Mr. Chen Lung-chu summed up the theme of the seminar in his speech: Human rights is a universal value which transcends the boundaries of countries. The government of P.R.C. should stop the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners.
