The spouses of Canadian Falun Gong practitioners are detained in China

March 12, 2000

According to the report from chinesenewsnet.com, the spouses of some Canadian Falun Gong practitioners, who have not yet immigrated to Canada, are detained and persecuted in China because of their practice of Falun Gong.

"Sing Tao Daily" in Toronto reported on March 8 that a Toronto resident (Chinese citizen), Jing Cong, is an auditor and also a Falun Gong practitioner. She said that some practitioner couples have one immigrated to Canada and the other one not. As a result, one is in prison in China, and the other is left worrying in Canada. A Toronto resident originally from Beijing is a Canadian citizen. His wife's application for immigration to Canada has not been approved yet, and she has been arrested in Beijing for the third time recently. Jing Cong said that this male from Beijing is quite calm because this is the third time his wife has been arrested. The reason for her arrest is that she went to the Tiananmen Square on Chinese New Year's Eve. He said that his wife is right, because someone has to do this.

Jing Cong also said that a female Chinese immigrant living in Montreal was arrested together with her husband at the Appealing Bureau in Beijing last December. She was deported and returned to Canada, and so far she has no news of her husband. Jing Cong pointed out that when Falun Gong practitioners abroad returned to China, they often thought about going to the Appealing Bureau in Beijing to relate the real situation about Falun Gong. Yet they were always arrested right at the Appealing Bureau. This female practitioner's brother and sister-in-law were also arrested in Beijing, and neither of them is a Canadian immigrant.
