Jan. 18, 2001

Member of Swedish Parliament, Ms. Berit Adolfsson made a written inquiry to the Swedish Foreign Minister on January 4, regarding the brutal crackdown and persecution in China on innocent Falun Gong practitioners.

In the inquiry, she mentioned the deaths of Ms. Zhao Xin and Ms. Chen Zixiu resulting from persecution and explained the specific numbers of people, who have been persecuted to death, sent to labor camps, sentenced, or locked up in mental hospitals in China. She emphasized repeatedly that the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners in China should not be overlooked.

In the end, she asked the Swedish Foreign Minister, "What kind of initiative do you intend to take so that the European Union will take action to stop the Chinese government from their persecution of Falun Gong practitioners?"

According to regulations, the Swedish Foreign Minister must make a written reply within two weeks to inquiries from members of the parliament.
