[Beijing] On January 12, 2001, A State Government Department Revealed the True Facts About the Persecution of Falun Gong in a Central Government Memo.

1. After a significant number of practitioners went to validate Dafa in Tiananmen Square, an inter- governmental office memo went out stating that 5,000 practitioners were arrested in Tiananmen Square during the first three days of the New Year. On January 1^st alone, 2,600 practitioners were arrested. The majority of the practitioners being detained were young males who took a very active part in the Fa rectification. They also refused to give their names and addresses. The longest Falun Dafa banner they unfurled was 110 meters [about 360 feet].
2. Every work unit in Beijing, in a state of extreme anxiety, took strict internal precautions. In order to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from going to Tiananmen Square, every work unit was required to closely watch over their own Falun Gong practitioners. A directive was given that no Falun Dafa practitioners should show up at Tiananmen Square from any of the work units in Beijing. If any practitioners, from places outside Beijing, were found at Tiananmen Square, the heads of those counties or cities were responsible to come to the Tiananmen police station in person to escort the practitioners back to their respective hometowns.
3. Jiang Zemin is still abusing innocent people. Recently, the Central Committee of the Youth League held a conference and Jiang Zemin chastised the host for not mentioning anything at the conference about [his efforts in persecuting] Falun Gong. Jiang blamed him for having a "lack of sensitivity to politics." Jiang Zemin criticizes every person who does not follow his personal political ideology and forces more innocent people into his "pirate ship" [of political ideology], which sails against the true Law of the Universe.

[Beijing] Vicious Police Stripped Female Practitioners from Wuhan City, Arrested for Appealing in Beijing, and Subjected Them to Humilation and Torture. Many practitioners in Wuhan City went to validate Dafa in Beijing during the New Year Holidays. After being viciously beaten up by degenerates in Tiananmen Square, the Falun Dafa practitioners were sent to county police stations or detention centers. At that time, the temperature in Beijing was lower than 10 ⁰C [less than 14⁰F]. Drops of water would turn into ice. However, some policemen and thugs stripped practitioners of their clothing, poured ice-cold water on them and hung them up while fans blowing cold air were directed at them. They forced some other practitioners to walk on the ice while shackled, and they flogged practitioners on their bare buttocks. The depraved lawbreakers forced the unclothed practitioners to grovel on the icy ground or sit on the ice. They even tied up female practitioners, threw them in the corridor containing the male prisoners' cellblock and forced them to sleep on the ground. It is not sufficient to describe their evil acts merely with the word "evil"; describe their contemptibility with the word "disgraceful" and describe their inhumanity as "vicious." No words in the human language are expressive enough to describe these half-human, half-animal beings' crimes. Many practitioners at home were also forcibly detained in detention centers and "transformation classes." Those in charge claimed there were only two ways to deal with practitioners; one was to force the Falun Dafa practitioners to write the "three statements"[to renounce their beliefs in Falun Dafa]; the other was to send them to labor camps. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Chengdu Police Insulted and Beat Up A Sixty- year -old Woman Around 4 pm on January 4, 2001, several policemen and personnel from the Street Residence Office converged upon an elderly woman in her 60's. The elderly woman said: "I am over sixty years-old. Since practicing Falun Gong, I have completely recovered from my liver disease that troubled me for many years. We practitioners just ask for our legal right to have a safe practice environment. But what are you here for?" Someone shouted, "Come to police station with us. We want to interrogate you about something." The elderly lady answered: "Just say it here in front of everyone. I won't go to the police office." She was afraid the police would not allow her to say anything in the police station. More and more people surrounded them. Policemen and personnel from the Street Resident Office became more and more nervous and impatient. They kept on making phone calls to their leader to report and ask for instructions. Shortly after, the director of the police office arrived with several young and strong policemen. They asked the elderly lady to accompany them to the police station, but she refused. The inhumane authorities began to drag her into a police car. She called out, "Practicing Falun Gong is legal. Suffocate the evil." On hearing this, the policemen were trying to push her into the police car. It took more than 10 young strong guys to cope with a sixty year-old (elderly) women, just because she would not give up her own righteous belief in Falun Dafa. The second afternoon, the elderly lady returned back home. There were bruises on her hands and face. We know for a fact that, as the police car arrived at the police station, she was dragged into the office. The director of the Qingyangzheng Street Police Station, Huang Minggui, slapped her in the face many times. The elderly women told him, "It is not right for you to beat others. You will be punished and end up in hell." Yet, he beat and kicked her violently and beat her forcefully on the head. Other policemen pulled him away, in case he would cause something worse to happen. During the interrogation, the policemen forced her to tell them what she had done during the New Year Holidays. They put her into a dank, humid and smelly cell. On the second day, her relatives negotiated with the police and then she was freed. However, the police asked her neighbors and the Resident Committee to report on her whereabouts every two hours. [Beijing] A Lot of Dafa Flyers Appeared in Beijing Again On the night on January 11, in Beijing's big streets, small lanes, on overpasses and bridges, a lot of practitioners from all over the country hung up many banners and posted many flyers reading, "Falun Dafa Is Good." They clarified the truth in a variety of ways. However, unfortunately, some practitioners were arrested. [Northern China] The Creative Way a Non-Literate Senior Practitioner Managed to Validate Dafa An over 60-year old practitioner in a city in Northern China was not able to write even her name, but now she can read Zhuan Falun fluently. Her health condition has been greatly improved, both physically and mentally. In order to clarify the truth to the public, she posted Falun Dafa validating material on the entrance of a park. After having dinner, she went back to the park. There she saw a crowd reading the Dafa material she posted in the morning. She went close to them and asked, "What are you all reading?" Others said, "Falun Gong material." She answered, "Really? I cannot read, would you please read it to me?" So the person read it to her loudly. In this way, she not only validated and verified Dafa, but also got to know the contents of the material. Others who were listening to the material all said, "What it says about Falun Gong is true." [Mohe County, Heilongjiang Province] In Severe Cold, in Temperatures Under 22⁰F, A Large Number of Dafa Practitioners were Sent to Mohe On January 1, 2001, three big buses and thirteen police cars filled with Dafa practitioners were driving to Mohe County [an extremely cold area in China]. The practitioners suffered inhumane treatment at the hands of the authorities, and were wearing only thin clothing, while the temperature had fallen to UNDER 30 centigrade below zero [22 ⁰F]. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Evil Will Disappear As Long As Righteous Thoughts Exist in Your Heart. There was a 40-year-old female Dafa practitioner in Shijiazhuang City. Before the New Year, the local policemen came to her home, intending to illegally take her to the police station for the "Transformation Class". This practitioner argued strongly for her legal rights granted to everyone under the Chinese Constitution and tried to persuade them by saying: "I didn't commit any crime. You have no reason to take me away. What you are doing is illegal. You are not just hurting me. You hurt my whole family and all kind-hearted people. My mom is blind, and nobody will take care of her if you arrest me. I cannot reunite with my family during the holidays, and my kids will be left uncared for. You are severely infringing upon my human rights and the happiness of my family. Falun Dafa is an orthodox Fa, and it is no crime for me to practice it." Seven or eight people, including the head of the police station and the officers of the street residence office have spent three to four hours trying to persuade her, but all their efforts were in vain. They did not take this practitioner away in the end. This practitioner told other practitioners later: " What I was thinking at that time was like this: How dare you small, evil, police try to test me? My Teacher is watching over me from heaven. I am a practitioner, an Arhat in the human world. Nobody can shake me if my heart does not move. I did not have any thought of fear. What I thought was that I could not allow the evil police to take me away. I should suffocate and eliminate those evil authorities." Now she lives in the No. 2 Building, #01-601, Dongcheng District, Beijing. Her mother was sent to Shijiazhuang Female Detention Center, 4^th Team, on March 2000. Because of this, Wang Ying has lost her mother. They had been dependent on each other for survival. Wang Ying (not a practitioner) was taken into illegal custody by government officials in Dongcheng District the heads of the legal unit, law unit and street committee unit Yang, Lin Jing and Secretary Dong. They forcibly transferred Wang Ying from 165 Middle School to 142 Middle School for their own convenience. In the new school, Wang Ying could not catch up with the lessons. This girl asked them to send her back to her original school. Their answer was for her to await the outcome of their deliberations. The outcome was that, since October 2000, Wang Ying had to drop out of school. These "guardians" unlawfully helped themselves to the money that Wang Ying's mother left her, and did not allow her to know the PIN number. They do not care that the girl cannot survive without money, which her mother left for her but was stolen by those authorities. During this difficult period of Wang Ying's life, the neighbors also came to bully and humiliate her. Her relatives are so unscrupulous that they want to forcibly occupy her family's property and drive her away. They even took the ownership certificate of the house. These so-called "guardians" did not stop her relatives and force them to help the young girl. Instead, they even cooperated with them to drive this girl to the countryside where her aunt lives. According to inside information, the Ministry of Public Security of Liaoning Province has given orders that, immediately, all Falun Dafa practitioners who are sent back from Beijing will be sentenced to labor camps or to detention centers all over the Province. 2. It is said that the Ministry of Public Security of Heilongjiang Province stipulated that the superiors and policemen will be dismissed or transferred if it is found that there are practitioners from their controlling area going to Beijing. [Fangshan County, Beijing] Fangshan Detention Center Inhumanly Persecuted Practitioners On December 4, 2000, many practitioners went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. The police in Beijing arrested them illegally. Since Beijing could not hold so many practitioners, they sent practitioners to different Detention Centers in other counties on December 8, 2000. The police in Fangshan Detention Center handcuffed and shackled 15 female practitioners with heavy shackles, and cuffed their hands on the back connecting with the shackles and put them into a very small room. The police often beat and kicked them. They stomped on the practitioners' chests and faces with leather shoes, and made them sit on the floor all day and all night. These practitioners are between twenty and sixty years old. These evil policemen even did not unlock the shackles when taking practitioners to a hospital for examination. Practitioners have been handcuffed and shackled for eighteen days! They have chosen not to eat anything for those eighteen days to show their firm resistance against the evil. Their hands and feet are festering and bleeding. They are suffering the kinds of horrible tortures that ordinary people cannot endure. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Qingyuan County practitioners Assist Master in Fa-Rectification Around December 28, 2000, Dafa practitioner Huo Xiaomin (female) of Luojiaying Village, Wenren Town, Qingyuan County was caught by policeman in Tiananmen Square. Beijing Police asked her local county to hand in 20,000 Yuan [about $2,500, average yearly wage in rural area is about $266] and escort her back. The county police ordered the village police station to "transform" her by force. They not only extorted from her this large amount of money but also forced her to write the "repentance letter." She firmly refused. The policemen then took turns to beat and kick her, even with wooden sticks. In order to prevent her from practicing the exercises, they forced her to hold heavy weights in both hands while standing. Huo Xiaomin told the policemen, "I will persist in cultivation as long as you don't beat me to death." The village also asked her husband to find some other Dafa practitioners to transform her, but this request was refused by all the Dafa practitioners. After Huo Xiaomin was taken back, the county illegally ordered to search all Dafa practitioners' homes in Luojiaying village. Four practitioners were taken away from home, as Falun Gong books and material were found at their homes. Among them, three were fined 2,000 Yuan; a former assistant, Huo Hongen, was released after being fined 3,500 Yuan. Seven practitioners of Xiaolige Village, Lizhuang Town, who went to the village committee to spread Dafa on January 3, were all caught and detained in the county. Despite all these tribulations, Dafa practitioners in this county stepped forward in cold, snowy weather and distributed from door to door several hundred copies of Hongfa materials and materials which reveal how Jiang Zemin persecuted Falun Gong. On January 7, 2001, a Falun Dafa practitioner who went to Beijing made a telephone call to let people know that there were more than ten thousand practitioners being caught in Beijing around the New Year's Day; that most of them refused to tell their names and addresses; that all the prisons in Beijing are full and they are transferring practitioners to other places. [Sanhe City, Hebei Province] Sanhe Police Station Spare No Effort to Illegally Stop Dafa Practitioners From Going to Beijing In order to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing, whenever a Festival or Holiday is approaching, Sanhe police station, Yanjiao policemen and traffic policemen will, at Yanjiao Checkpoint, interrogate people who were heading for Beijing. During the New Year holidays, this group of policemen rushed onto the buses, especially long distance bus #930, and interrogated passengers one by one and forced them to say something bad or speak something abusively. Those who refused to do so would be held. It is said that they held over 400 people who were to appeal in Beijing and who refused to curse.
