Sharing experiences with a fellow practitioner, we uncovered some problems which should not be overlooked in our truth-clarifying work. First, with respect to the flyers we hand out to others, many focus on exposing evil, while very few focus on spreading Falun Dafa. Some practitioners don't respect the flyers. They stress the importance of the quantity of flyers distributed, without paying attention to their quality and impact. The content of the flyers has not been carefully thought through. Second, regarding the relationship between Fa-study and clarifying the truth, quite a few practitioners neglect to study the Fa and practice the exercises and simply engage in truth-clarifying activities (distributing flyers, posting Dafa literature and so on). Third, when facing conflicts, some practitioners can't look inward but act willfully despite having received other's advice, which has caused unnecessary damage to Falun Dafa.
In light of these issues, we share the following suggestions with you. Kindly point out any errors in our thinking.
- Flyers
- Focus on helping people understand Falun Dafa in a positive way
- Treasure flyers
- Don't focus on quantity of flyers distributed, but the result in clarifying the truth
- Carefully consider the content of flyers
Our understanding is that flyers are to be used to introduce people to the practice of Falun Dafa at the same time as clarifying the truth and exposing the evil. Master asks us to "clarify the truth thoroughly." ('Dafa is Indestructible') As we understand, clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa is very important, namely, what is Falun Dafa? Why is it good? What significance does Dafa have for the cosmos and mankind? Why must we cherish Dafa? Doing so will help dispel the incorrect notions people have developed as a result of the deceitful propaganda of Jiang's regime and assist people in establishing righteous thoughts toward Dafa. At the same time, we must also reveal the truth about the persecution of Falun Dafa and it's practitioners, telling people about the ruthless suppression by Jiang's regime, awakening the conscience of the public so that they may come out in support of the righteous.
In addition, we should also help people realize that Dafa practitioners are not just good people in an ordinary sense. They are carrying out a sacred mission of salvation. They are true great cultivators and future enlightened beings. We must eliminate the despicable influence of the evil slander.
We don't have any organization or receive any financial aid. Funding for Dafa materials comes from practitioners' own income. I've heard that some practitioners have paid for materials with years of their savings. Some have even sold their homes. We should treasure the selfless contributions of our fellow practitioners, treasure every flyer and strive for the maximum effect from every piece.
When distributing flyers, some practitioners determine in advance how many they must give out each day, as if they are giving assignments. We don't agree with this approach. We should distribute flyers, but we should also be clear that the importance of distributing flyers is not in the distribution itself. The purpose is to help members of the public come to understand Dafa, to expose the persecution and to tell the principle that good is rewarded with good and evil with evil. A fellow practitioner once told me that he took an entire afternoon to chat with three people, yet he was able to change their attitude towards Dafa. This could hardly be achieved by simply handing out three flyers.
Practitioners have experience with many ways to spread the Fa and clarify the truth. Conversation, mail, email, telephone calls, etc. Master says, "As long as something is good for Dafa, you should take the initiative to do it, take the initiative to work on it." ('To all students at the Nordic Fa Conference') Flyers are certainly not the only way to clarify the truth. Anything we can make use of is a good tool to spread the Fa and clarify the truth.
We think that to be responsible to Dafa, those who produce flyers should carefully consider their content. Those who distribute flyers should also carefully check the content of flyers before handing them out and make sure everything in them is appropriate to be handed out to the general public. We must be responsible with their contents.
II. Relationship between Fa-study and Clarifying the truth
Recently a fellow practitioner told me that some practitioners have been simply engaging in truth-clarifying work, seldom studying the Fa or practicing the exercises. An aged practitioner who just came out of a brainwashing class told me that he doesn't know why he doesn't study the Fa. He just doesn't want to read the book. For a long time he hasn't studied the Fa or practiced the exercises. His mind is controlled by thought karma, yet he has not considered how to extricate it. How can this be the action of a Dafa disciple?
Master says: "As a Dafa disciple, in order to do Fa-rectification things well and to consummate everything of yours well, you need to study the Fa a lot. No matter how busy you are, you cannot skip Fa-study. This is what can best ensure your reaching Consummation." ('Persons in Charge of the European Fa Conference and All Attendees') Master again says: "Pay attention: No matter how busy you are, you cannot neglect Fa study. This is what fundamentally assures your moving towards Consummation and doing Dafa work well." ('To all students at the Nordic Fa Conference') Master also says: "Under any circumstance, in any period, and no matter how busy you are with your work, you can't stray from your Fa-study, as this is what fundamentally ensures that you'll continue to improve and reach Consummation. You can't do Dafa work without studying the Fa, or it would be an everyday person doing Dafa work. It has to be Dafa disciples who do Dafa work--this is something required of all of you."('Lecture on the Fa at the Washington, D.C. International Conference')
Master has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Fa-study. As disciples, we should listen to what Master says!
