A Thought Regarding the Meaning of Life

Oct. 8, 2001 |   By Jue Ming

(Clearwisdom.net) Ever since childhood I have been thinking about the meaning of life and existence. I finally found my answer after practicing Falun Dafa.

A student is allowed to graduate when all of the courses in school can no longer challenge him. When nothing in human society can lead a person to make even the slightest mistake, that person can graduate from the earth. Nothing can cause him to err, like his daily life, family, career, future, fame, money, friendship, or anything else. Why does a human make mistakes? Every human being loves life. To love life itself is not wrong, but having an attachment to it could cause a person to lose his righteous stance sometimes. To love family itself is not wrong either, but having an attachment to family could also cause a person to lose his righteous stance under some circumstances. Giving up attachments is the best way to treasure life, because life exists only for truth.

Why is humankind lost and confused? Once a person knows everything, he will want to be good, but he might be doing so to be rewarded with a good end. Therefore, he is being good but not fundamentally good. When being "good" might affect his reward, he will no longer want to be good, because his "being good" in the first place was for gaining the reward. This is not consummation. When a person is lost, he sees nothing. He again and again suffers tribulations and even threats to his life. He sees no hope, yet he still maintains his righteousness. This is what truly being good is, being good without having pursuits.
