Chinese Embassy Staff Member in Canberra Assaults Falun Gong Practitioners in Broad Daylight

Oct. 9, 2001

October 5, 2001 was the 45th day of the Falun Gong practitioners' hunger strike in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canberra. Around 3pm two Embassy staff members walked out of the Embassy door and looked around for a while. At that time there were not many tourists and no police cars around, only 5 female practitioners who were on hunger strike in front of the Embassy. One of the two staff members rushed up to the practitioners. He pointed to the tape player broadcasting the truth about Falun Gong and shouted "What are you doing here? The tape recorder is very annoying." Two practitioners answered peacefully, "We have permission to appeal here, and you don't have the right to interfere with us." The staff member continued to curse the practitioners ferociously and rudely.

One practitioner said to him, "This is Australia, not China. We are Australian citizens. You don't have the right to interfere with us." He stamped with fury and said, "Don't tell me that you are Australian citizens. Don't tell me this is Australian soil. What difference does Australia make?" His finger almost touched the practitioner's nose. The practitioner said to him seriously, "You are a staff member of the Chinese Embassy. You represent the Jiang Zemin regime. What you are doing is against the law." The staff member immediately said, "I only represent myself." The practitioner corrected him, saying, "There is no individual factor."

One Practitioner on the side took out her camera and took photos of the staff member. When he realized this, he twisted another female practitioner's arm who was right in front of him, pushed her away, then lunged at the practitioner who was taking the photos. The camera was transferred to another practitioner. The staff member raised his hand and slapped her on the left side of her face. All five practitioners said, "You have assaulted people! You are not allowed to move! Your behavior is against the law."

The staff member quibbled, "I am a diplomatic agent. I have diplomatic immunity. You impinged my right of likeness."

Practitioners said, "The title of diplomatic agent does not give you the right to do anything you want. Because you behaved like a hooligan, we took photos of you. We will report this to the police. "

Another practitioner began to call the police station. At this moment, 3 more people, 2 of them in black suits, came out of the Embassy and watched carefully what was happening. It appeared that all of this had been pre-arranged. Two staff member in plain-clothes pulled back the one who beat the practitioner and they went back to the Embassy. The two in black suits also disappeared.

Half an hour later, two policemen arrived. They said it was right to take photos of that staff member. They would put him on record.

Practitioners know that the place in front of the Chinese Embassy is a battlefield between the righteous and evil because the evil force is so afraid of the truth. If the Chinese Embassy staff dares to assault Falun Gong practitioners and Australian citizens in Australia in broad daylight, we can imagine what they do to practitioners in China. We must continue to eliminate the evil and end the persecution.
