Xinhua News Agency Brings More Shame to Itself With Its Latest Report On The Self-Immolation

Feb. 16, 2001 |   Wei Min

[Minghui Net] Xinhua News Agency claimed in their wire on February 8, "Liu Chunling started practicing Falun Gong after the Chinese Government banned it in July 1999." The reporter tried to explain why none of Liu's neighbors or people around her knew that she practiced Falun Gong. The article said, "There were two draperies hung on the windows in her home. The room was cold and as dark as night. Liu was dreaming about her going to heaven with her daughter in this room that was isolated from the world." We don't know the truth of her home. But at least, from the reverse side, the reporter has proven what the Washington Post reported, "Nobody had seen her practicing Falun Gong."

The report went on... "Knowing that practicing Falun Gong was illegal, Liu threatened little Siying, her daughter, 'Don't let the school know. Otherwise the police will arrest us.' She also said, 'If you tell the school, I will beat you to death.'" I cannot help laughing upon reading this. She was not afraid to go to Tiananmen Square to burn herself to death in front of the policemen. How can such an obsessed person dare not to let the neighbors or the school know? Besides, Falun Gong emphasizes compassion and values virtue. Recovering from chronic illnesses, cherishing the value of lives more, correcting one's conduct and valuing virtue, restoring good relations, and giving up bad habits are the real experiences shared by tens of thousands of true cultivators.

To further slander Falun Gong, the article claimed, "Liu Chunling changed a lot after she got in touch with Falun Gong. ... She even beat her stepmother. In the end, she refused to let her eat from the same pot. Her neighbor Wen Jinxiang found that she used a high-heel shoe to beat her stepmother. Last October, Liu drove her 78-year-old step-mother out of her home." I don't know if Liu ever read Falun Gong's books. But it is obvious that the reporters were either ignorant about Falun Gong, or they intentionally misrepresented the truth. Zhuan Falun has pointed this out clearly: "Of course, in practicing cultivation in ordinary human society, we should respect parents and educate our children. Under all circumstances, we must be good and kind to others, not to mention to our family members. We should treat everyone in the same way. We must be good to our parents and children and be considerate of others in all respects. Such a heart is thus unselfish, and it is a heart of kindness and benevolence." The reporters in Xinhua News Agency described Liu as obsessed by Falun Gong, but her supposed behaviors don't match these simple requirements of Falun Gong practitioners. The article thus indirectly validates Liu's neighbors' characterization of her as not practicing Falun Gong, as cited in the Washington Post article.

The reporters also quoted Liu's words about "ascending into the sky", "a king of law has servants", none of which could be found in any Falun Gong book. Such behavior and such speech as described by the reporters have nothing to do with Falun Gong. No wonder the Falun Gong practitioners deny that the mother or daughter were practitioners.

More and more the truth makes me wonder, what has led Liu to perform self-immolation in Tiananmen Square. What has brought her to such a tragic end? Besides an indescribable sympathy and sorrow for the mother and daughter, I feel extremely angry with the schemers behind the scenes. Those who treat people's lives with utter disregard will face the wrath of heaven!
