On Chinese New Year's day (1/24/2001) in Tiananmen Square, one Dafa practitioner opened a banner and yelled out, "Falun Dafa is good", "Falun Dafa is the righteous law.". The police in the square immediately pounced on her from all directions, pressed her onto the ground, and began punching and kicking her. They also beat with police batons. Some of them even used filthy language. The practitioner's nose was bleeding continuously from the beating. Observers who had gathered from nearby realized they were watching the police beating someone who did not resist in broad day light, so some persuaded the police with kind intentions, "She has been beaten to such a degree, stop the beating."

The police saw a lot of blood on the ground and they felt guilty. Two policemen helped her get up, one of them even gave her some tissue paper and said, "Go ahead and wipe yourself." The practitioner was wiping and covering her nostrils to stop the bleeding. Another policeman hurried her roughly into the police van. She calmly said, "Don't pull me, I need to pickup the bloody tissue paper on the ground first." One of the policemen said, "Falun Gong practitioners are so good, when beaten to such a degree, she still thinks about cleaning up the environment."

The police left leaving only one guard to watch her. She picked up the tissue paper on the ground and slowly stood up. The officer said, "Go away quickly, I am not going to arrest you." The practitioner said, "Good things will happen to you." She then left. But after having walked only 200 meters (about 600 feet), she passed out due to losing too much blood. When she woke up, she found herself on a hospital bed, with an old couple sitting beside her, looking at her with care and kindness.

She asked, "Who are you? Are you the ones who sent me here?"

The couple said, "Don't ask. We will tell you when you have recovered." Since the practitioner insisted on leaving the hospital, the old couple paid the hospital bills and invited her to their home for a few days to chat.

Through conversation she found out that the old couple were retired officials from Beijing city. They went to visit Tiananmen Square on Chinese New Year day. They never imagined that in Tiananmen Square, supposedly so respectable and sacred, the people's police had been beating citizens for the past 18 months. They told the practitioner, "We saw with our own eyes how they beat you. Many people nearby saw it too. They were very unhappy about it. You Falun Dafa practitioners are great people. Such an evil force does not scare or silence you. This proves that your master's Falun Dafa is so good. We want to learn too, may we?"

"Of course! Teaching Falun Gong is done free of charge, everyone is welcome to learn!"

"Do you have flyers? We are also going to give them out."

"I don't have them now."

"We will give you our address, could you mail them to us?"

"Yes, I will do my best to fulfill your wishes." The practitioner was so touched. It was as if spring had truly bloomed anew from the cold blood-spattered ground of Tiananmen square as people's hearts had awakened into the sunlight of Dafa.
