[Beijing] Dr. Teng Chunyan Is Being Detained In the 7th Division of the Beijing Police Bureau
American resident and Dafa practitioner, Dr. Teng Chunyan is currently being detained in Room 504 of the 7th Division of the Beijing Police Bureau.
Teng Chunyan, a practitioner from the U.S., was arrested on May 12, 2000 while attending an experience sharing conference in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. The United States government notified the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. to find out the whereabouts of Ms. Teng. The Embassy denied that the police authority in China ever arrested her.
Other information sources revealed that Teng Chunyan had been sentenced in the middle of December 2000 to three years in prison charged with committing "espionage" [Note: She had passed photos of the condition of Dafa practitioners who were being mistreated and held against their will in mental hospitals in China. ] It is said that she is currently detained in the 7th Division of Beijing Police Bureau, and will be sent to serve the prison term in the near future.
While in detention, she was swindled out of US$15,000 by the police authorities when she demanded a lawyer. She tried to have them exchange US$3,000 for Yuan (Chinese dollars) for her daily use, but the 7th Division took 30,000 Yuan from her in the name of a service charge. She is often forced to stand for long periods of time whenever she has been discovered practicing the Falun Gong exercises. On one occasion, a guard verbally abused her in anger when seeing her practice. The guard ordered her to stand from nine in the morning until four in the afternoon. Then, the guard interrogated her until late at night, and forced her to stand again after the interrogation until the next morning. She has been interrogated over 50 times while under detention.
