Ms. Wang is a retired professor. On March 4, 2001 she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained by plain-clothed police officers. She was released on March 6. As she was escorted back to her city of residence, she worked tirelessly promoting Dafa and telling the truth to people along the way. When she was brought to the "transformation class," the district government was organizing a variety show. Ms. Wang offered to sing, and then she introduced herself, "I am a professor from the so-and-so academic institute. I turned 67 this year. I've served in the army as a soldier in performing arts since I was 10 years old. I joined the Party in the 50's. It was "the people" (editors note: "the people" here refers to the Chinese Government--the People's Republic of China--or the Party) who nurtured me from an innocent young child to become a university professor. I therefore feel obliged to tell people about the truth. Ever since the self-immolation incident was broadcast on television, I felt that those people burning themselves in Tiananmen Square were not Falun Gong practitioners. Not a single genuine Falun Gong student would act that way. Our teacher said in his lecture in Sydney that suicide is a sin." Ms. Wang also spoke on other issues. The face of the District Committee Secretary of the [party name omitted] Party turned pale upon hearing this. The program was cut short after Ms. Wang spoke, even though there were still some more acts remaining. Since the show was being taped, the recording had to be stopped, resumed, and interrupted again. The situation took everyone by surprise. As Ms. Wang spoke, all the Falun Gong practitioners cheered and clapped together, expressing their congratulations. Ms. Wang's heart was especially calm, and her speech was clear and well organised. All the non-practitioners (the staff running the transformation class) on site had their eyes and mouths wide open, some faces changed color, and some were probably totally ignorant of the truth before. From discussions with the staff, it became clear that many of them did not know anything about Falun Gong. Through this interaction, many people came to understand, and some told us: Falun Gong practitioners have kind hearts, you are all good people, but since they do not let you practice, then don't practice, as it's not worth "hitting the stone with an egg." What they could not appreciate is that ordinary people spend their whole lifetime seeking fame, profit, and the fulfilment of emotions, whereas cultivators' hearts are beyond ordinary people's comprehension. At the end of the transformation class, Ms. Wang heard the staff talking about sending her to a labor camp. She was mentally well prepared. They then talked about sending her to a detention center, but in the end she was allowed to go home. This indicated that Ms. Wang's heart was truly pure and well placed.
