Dr. Keith Martin MP, Speaks Out for the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture in Victoria, Canada

June 29, 2001

June 26, was UN International day in Support of Victims of Torture. Victoria practitioners held an event in Centennial Square, beside City Hall. Although our group was small in numbers, we held a righteous mind to enable our banners to be displayed up high: "Stop Killing" and "Please Help Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong in China."

We received a "thumbs up" by many passersby, as well as an unexpected visit by our city mayor. We shook hands, and I was happy that he was able to witness the mighty power of Dafa once again. Many people came and read our display and took information. There was a lot of positive support and interest.

Dr. Keith Martin an MP, graciously attended our event to share his words of support: "Thank you very much. It is a pleasure to be here on the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Torture is perhaps the most grievous violation of people's basic human rights, that and the willful murder of innocent civilians by regimes. If it weren't for people around the world who pay witness to these individuals who are defenseless, who are voiceless, far, far, away, this world would be a far worse place. I can only say that I would like to stand shoulder to shoulder with you and people all over the world, to commemorate this exceedingly important day, and sometime in the future we would like to see that torture would be a thing of the past." As a member of the foreign affairs committee, Dr Martin wrote Lei Ping, Chinese Ambassador to Canada on behalf of Falun Gong, and he received slander and lies. In response to this Dr Martin declared, "I say to the Chinese Ambassador to Canada that it is absolutely undemocratic, that it is a violation of people's basic human rights, and that we as a country, and we as a people, and as citizens of this world, find that attitude, those comments, morally offensive. I want to compliment everyone here who is standing up in defense of people's basic human rights. I hope in the future we will have a world free of torture."

We felt very happy that Dr Martin took the time to speak out at this event. His positive words will ensure a good future for himself, and his upright mentality will benefit others.

We shared Ying Zhu's statement of experience during detainment in China, and took this opportunity to thank Canadians for their cross-country wide support for the release of Ying. As was the case with Kunlun Zhang earlier in the year, it worked again.

We also thanked the UN General Assembly for declaring this day four years ago, and for providing the forum in the human world for us to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to more people, and awaken their righteous thoughts.
