A Fifty-Minute Special Falun Gong Program Airs on Korean TV

July 27, 2001

(Clearwisdom.net) At 10:10am on July 14, 2001, after more than two months of planning and preparing, the Jingren TV Station in Korea finally broadcast a 50 minute special Falun Gong program.

Dafa practitioners who waited for a long time for this program to air were all very excited and immediately spread this good news to fellow practitioners at work. After the Falun Gong program was broadcast, the phone line to Jingren TV Station suddenly became a "hot line." There were phone calls from everywhere in Korea inquiring about learning Falun Gong. The director and executives of the TV station who were previously under great pressure about the decision to broadcast this special program were encouraged and excited. Practitioners from the Falun Gong Association who were involved in producing this special program could not hold back their joyous tears.

Two months ago, when contacting some people working at the TV station, a practitioner used that special occasion to promote Dafa to them and gave them Dafa books and materials. After repeated talks with people from the TV station, the TV station brass decided to produce and broadcast a special, rich Falun Gong feature program containing many truths, including the history of Falun Gong and the worldwide spreading of Dafa. Unfortunately, because it experienced a lot of pressure from many sources, the TV station halted the making of this special program. Why should such a good, spiritual practice like Falun Gong, which has benefited the health, mind, and spirit of tens of millions of people not be broadcast on TV? Is there after all a way to introduce Falun Gong? After thinking it over or a long time, the director of the department of Special Topics finally stepped forward to boldly assume the task. While facing the risk of being fired, he decided to produce this special Falun Gong program. Of course, there were still many difficulties and obstacles to overcome. But the director's forthright attitude influenced many people around him and affected practitioners from the Falun Gong Association as well.

The special Falun Gong program was thus resurrected. This time it focused on introducing the five sets of exercises. Although many previously planned ideas could not be included in the program, it was really the first time that a 50-minute Falun Gong program had aired in Korea. In addition, even though the Jingren TV Station is not an affiliate of the three other national TV stations, it still has a large share of the audience; it broadcasts baseball games and it is the only cable TV station among local TV stations in Korea. Its audience rating is only second to other national TV stations.

After a consensus between Jingren TV station and the Falun Dafa Association, the Association arranged for some practitioners to get involved with the making of the special program. With other practitioners' help, the primary practitioner and five additional practitioners overcame all kinds of difficulties and successfully finished the task to make this special program of Dafa.

Many immediate comments were heard from all over the country at the conclusion of the program. Someone said, "Falun Gong is very good. I learned how to practice while I was watching TV. Please tell me where to learn Falun Gong." Someone else said, "What I have been seeking my entire life is Falun Gong." Some others thought that the Jingren TV Station had waited too long in their decision to broadcast this program and commented, "Such a good Falun Gong; why is it broadcast only now and never before?"

On July 12, seventy Korean Dafa practitioners staged a demonstration in front of the Chinese Embassy, objecting to the atrocities that occurred in the Wanjia Labor Camp. Although reporters from more than ten newspapers came and got the news, no articles were published about this activity. Even under this kind of circumstance, Jingren TV station still resolutely decided to broadcast the 50-minute special program of Falun Gong. We are hereby expressing our gratitude to the executives and to the respected director of the Jingren TV station.

Korea's Jingren TV Station's nationwide broadcast of a fifty minute Falun Gong program is a memorable event in the history of spreading Dafa. This is a good start for widely spreading Dafa in Korea and is another manifestation of Dafa's great virtue in the human world.
