BEIJING, Aug 23, 2001 -- (Agence France Presse) The Falun Gong movement on Thursday condemned as "propaganda" a death sentence imposed by a Chinese court on a follower of the outlawed spiritual sect accused of a brutal axe murder.
The group's beliefs explicitly rejected violence, said the New York-based Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) Information Center, meaning that if the incident took place the murderer could not be a Falun Gong follower.
A court in the southern province of Guangxi condemned Lan Yunchang to death suspending the sentence for two years, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.

The Falun Dafa Information Center condemned the court case as part of the Chinese government's "campaign to tarnish and incite hatred against non-violent Falun Gong practitioners".
