(ClearWisdom.net) Malta is a very small European country in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, off the southwestern corner of Italy. It has a political system similar to those of the Western European countries and has been trying to join the European Union. Malta was the final stop of the recent European trip of the Chinese President who is behind the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

The people in Malta as well as Falun Gong practitioners from Europe protested during Jiang's visit. On 20 July, Mario Galea, a member of Malta's House of Representatives (Parliament of Malta) sent a letter to a Falun Gong practitioner to express his support: "While expressing my sincere solidarity, please be assured of my help and support." He has also brought the matter of Falun Gong human rights to the attention of the Maltese Foreign Ministry. For four consecutive days, Malta's media reported the protests against Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
