Practitioner Qian Shiguang, male, from the Institute of Geophysics in Gansu Province, went on a hunger strike for 18 days in Gansu Pingantan Labor Camp before the New Year of 2001. He recovered his health quickly after his family bailed him out. During the New Year holiday 2001, he had to leave home because he was being investigated about some truth-telling materials. Currently no one knows his whereabouts. Gansu Pingantan Labor Camp is a vicious place. They distributed Dafa practitioners to different labor teams and the inmates are scrutinizing each practitioner; they have no freedom at all. The police secretly order inmates to persecute Dafa practitioners. Statements and appeal letters from practitioners were kept by those police and never got to the higher authorities but the Dafa practitioners' determination made those evil people desperate. There are seven labor teams in Gansu Pingantan Labor Camp: numbers 1 through 6 are for males and team 7 is for females. There are three sub-teams in each team.
Additionally, on April 29, 2001, Gansu Province's Department of Organization, the Department of Human Resources, the Police Department, the Committee of Politics and Law and 623 Office [an illegal organization specified for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners] jointly held a conference to commend those groups as "models" which persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners including 141 personnel and about 40 other groups. Sources said that at the conference these evil people exchanged their experiences of how to persecute Dafa practitioners.
If humankind ignores wrong doings, heaven will intervene. Recently Min County, Gansu Province encountered the flood of the century. On July 24, 3:20 to 5:20 am, 15 villages in Mawu Town and Suolong Town encountered storms; the raging flood caused tremendous destruction to the lives and property of the local people. It is reported that there had been 30 deaths, 16 missing and 17 wounded. 12,722 Mu [1Mu = 0.165 Acre] of crops were destroyed; 6,013 Mu of rice fields were destroyed; 17 locations and about 30 kilometers of road were destroyed; 6 bridges, 6 culverts, 15 kilometers of cables and 3.5 kilometers of embankments were destroyed. 210,000 Jin [about 25,000 lbs] of starch was flooded. It is estimated that the direct loss has reached 42,043,400 RMB [approximately the sum of one year's salary for 4000 average urban workers].
