On September 8, 2001, in order to rescue two detained Falun Gong practitioners in China, Dr. Teng Chunyan and Ms. Lu Jianhua, practitioners in the San Francisco Bay area held a press conference and started an SOS Walk in 6 city/towns at the same time.
At the press conference in San Jose, practitioner Lu Zhonghua told the media her sister Lu Jianhua's story -- she has been illegally detained at the Masanjia labor camp in Liaoning Province because she clarified the truth of the persecution of Falun Gong while she was visiting her family in China. Other practitioners also described personal stories of their illegal detention in China due to peaceful appeals there.
The local people were very supportive when they saw practitioners walking through the streets.
