Following a rally in front of San Jose City Hall attended by more than a score of Falun Gong supporters, the city council Tuesday adopted a resolution supporting the beleaguered Chinese [practice].
Councilman Chuck Reed authored the resolution. He told rally participants that it was important that Falun Gong practitioners know that they are welcome in San Jose.
"It is important that the suppression of rights in China not be allowed to spill over into San Jose," Reed said.
Falun Gong is a Chinese-based spiritual practice involving [...] exercises, music and meditation. The Chinese government has been attempting to repress the practice for several years.
The city council resolution was adopted without opposition.
