One day recently only three Western practitioners came to the practice site in the middle of Chinatown.
Making sure to keep benevolent hearts, our smiling, beaming faces naturally surfaced. The longer we were out there in the cold, patiently greeting each Chinese person with a "Ni Hao" (Hello) and handing out flyers, the bigger our smiles became. On the surface, our smiles and white faces made us more approachable and even seemed to intrigue the Chinese people. Indeed, for the first time perhaps, only us Western practitioners were at that practice site! Also, politely greeting them in their own language had a good effect as well.
In addition, we found it very important to keep righteous thoughts in mind at all times. Expressing a righteous thought like "You really should take this; it is important for your future," just as a person walked by really helped. Sometimes a person would walk by, then slow down and even turn back to take a flyer. Teacher said, "An everyday person is very weak before a cultivator." Indeed, with Compassion for all sentient beings in our hearts, our righteous minds could make use of this opportunity to clarify the truth to the Chinese people and achieve good results.
