My Personal Understanding of Cultivating with Benevolence and Sending Forth Righteous Thoughts

Nov. 24, 2002 |   By a Canadian Dafa Practitioner

(Clearwisdom.net) I would like to share with everyone my personal understanding on two issues. The first one is cultivating with benevolence. I think that benevolence does not only mean treating others well. It also includes understanding others and forgiving others' mistakes.

Now I have deeper understanding on how to deal with my child. I used to be very strict with my child because of my strong attachment to certain emotions. I did not forgive him for any small mistakes he made. However, he never corrected his mistakes and constantly caused more and more trouble. Later, I did not immediately criticize him like before when he made mistakes on several occasions. Instead, I thoroughly analyzed what had caused the problems and helped him to straighten the things up.

Once, the same problem occurred three times. Since it is my responsibility to educate my child, I told him one by one seriously, but without my usual attitude. I said to him that Mama did not point these out to him at the time because Mama wants him to be a good person of his own will. His eyes turned wet.

I received a complimentary letter from my son's schoolteacher. I think that my benevolent heart has changed my child for the better.

We should cultivate our benevolence among fellow practitioners. Master has taught us on this matter many times. I was very moved when a fellow practitioner said that she found that everyone she met here was so nice after she was back from out of town. I think that the outside world may not have really changed that much. It may be her heart that is filled with compassion now.

Master told us: "They are in a state of immense tolerance, of mercy toward all beings, and of being able to understand everything with kindness. To put it in human terms, they're always able to be understanding of others." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston")

The second one is the issue of sending forth righteous thoughts. For a certain period of time, I had a lot of attachments because I did not study Fa well. Thus, evil elements interfered with me intensely. When I was sending forth righteous thoughts, all kinds of trivial thoughts came into my mind. I had three different experiences in sending forth righteous thoughts during my recent three-day trip to the U.S. On the first day, I tried all day to get rid of trivial thoughts when I was sending forth righteous thoughts. I finally felt better in the night. On the second day, my mind was peaceful for the most of the day and was able to send forth righteous thoughts for a long time. But I was tired in the afternoon and could not concentrate. Then I started to read Master's recent articles with a fellow practitioner and regained my inner peace again. On the third day, I was sending righteous thoughts in the state of complete tranquility and sensed the power of the righteous thoughts. After I returned from U.S., I had some relapses again. I know my shortcomings. Since Dafa practitioners around the world began global efforts to send forth righteous thoughts at set times everyday, I started to send forth righteous thoughts at 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am. I also sent forth righteous thoughts at work during daytime and continue to do so at night after I came home. I realized that sending forth righteous thoughts is a powerful weapon Master taught us to use, cleaning our own mind and eliminating all evils. If we do not want to have any trivial thoughts, it is crucial to find out our own attachments and get rid of them decisively because those bad things are very cunning and will come out to interfere us the moment we are not vigilant. As Master taught us, complacency and the showing-off mentality are attachments that demons can easily take advantage of. We should continue to purge them constantly until they are all eliminated.

If we study Fa well, we will be able to clarify the truth more conscientiously and fulfill our missions in life.
