The annual dialogue on human rights between Canada and China was held in Beijing in November 2002. The Canadian delegate for the human-rights dialogue, consisting of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Canadian International Development Agency, discussed with Chinese officials on human rights issues in a broad scale during the dialogue. In particular, they brought up the issue of the persecution of Falun Gong, and expressed grave concerns over the suppression of religious freedom by the Chinese authorities.
The Canadian representatives stated pointedly: Contrary to what China believes, Falun Gong practitioners can practice in Canada freely.
