Germany: A Letter Calling For The Rescue Of Practitioner Hung-Po Liu

Dec. 11, 2002

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Juan Du. I came to study in Germany in August 2001 and became a Falun Gong practitioner.

Mr. Hung-Po Liu, born in 1971, was a close acquaintance of mine at our practice site. Before China's persecution of Falun Gong, he was a teller at the Dalian Branch of Bank of China. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1994. As he disciplined himself according to the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance", he was widely regarded as a fine person. In 1999, he was forced to quit his job by bank authorities simply because he refused to give up his practice of Falun Gong. In December 1999, he went to Beijing trying to clarify the truth to the authorities, but was arrested and sent back to Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian. To reclaim other practitioners' Falun Gong publications confiscated by the detention center, he staged a hunger strike. Then he was force-fed as a result. In October 2000, he was apprehended on his way to Beijing, but was bailed out by his relatives afterward.

On July 20, 2001, Mr. Hong-bo Liu was forcibly abducted from his home by the agents of the Eighth Department and Second Department of the National Security Bureau's branch office in Dalian. Mr. Liu was injured at several places on his body when he was dragged from upstairs to the ground floor. He passed out and then regained consciousness with first aid. Afterwards, policemen searched his home illegally and took away 4 computers, 4 CD burners, several stacks of CDs and a printer. His mother was threatened as well. He was interrogated by the Lushun Security Bureau the following day and then detained in Yaojia Detention Center. He has been banned from seeing his family for more than one year, and no one really knows what kind of persecution he is suffering now. In September 2002, the Court in Dalian City illegally sentenced him to ten years in prison without his family's knowledge or proper legal proceedings with lawyers. He defied the verdict and appealed to a people's middle court in Dalian, but the court returned the same verdict. Shortly after, he was again detained in Dalian's Yao-jia Detention Center. I do not know how much torture he has suffered in the past year or so and what his situation is now. However, based on my personal experience, I am very worried about his current situation.

In the wake of the oppression of Falun Gong since July 20, 1999, the university I studied at forbade practicing Falun Gong on campus and confiscated our Falun Gong books. In addition, some other students were dispatched to keep track of us and monitor our activities. In April and October 2000, in spite of intense pressure from the university and society, I tried to peacefully appeal to Beijing twice against the government's decision on Falun Gong. I was detained in a drug rehabilitation center in Dalian (later turned into a "610 Office") and Yaojia Detention Center respectively. (The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems.)

In the process of my visits to Beijing and the illegal incarceration that ensued, I personally witnessed the ongoing cruel persecution of Falun Gong in Mainland China. On my way to Beijing, I noticed that there were a lot of policemen and posters desecrating Master Li and Falun Gong, whether I was on the streets, train or bus. People might be asked whether they are Falun Gong practitioners anytime and anywhere. If their answers were positive, they would be arrested and put into jail right away. At Tiananmen Square, I witnessed policemen and plainclothesmen brutally beating practitioners until they started bleeding, and then they immediately wiped away the evidence, having a cleanup car waiting nearby. I don't know how many similar tragedies have taken place in front of Tiananmen, which symbolizes the Chinese civilization of five thousand years. It was the place where one of my relatives, my mother's uncle, was beaten to death.

In a brainwashing class at the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Center, I witnessed that anyone who dared to loudly stop them from swearing at Falun Gong were subjected to brutal torture, being forbidden to use the toilet, etc. In one police precinct, I was deprived of sleep and monitored by policemen around the clock. I was not even allowed to close my eyes. Their purpose was to make me become muddle-headed and lose my will. In addition, I was also interrogated repeatedly. In detention center, not only did policemen beat us in person, they also instigated other inmates to beat Falun Gong practitioners. Every criminal detention center was equipped with a monitoring system to watch us. We were neither allowed to talk to one another nor sat in the lotus position. The charges they forcibly imposed on us were anti-revolution, anti-government and anti-nation, while the strategies toward us was "When beating practitioners, regard it as what they deserve; when practitioners are beaten to death, announce it as committing suicide."

My various personal experiences showed that not only the physical freedom of the Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China is restricted, but their basic human rights are also deprived. Furthermore, they are persecuted both physically and spiritually, and their lives are at stake at any moment.

Therefore, I urgently call for all kind-hearted German citizens, judicial organizations, mass media, parliamentarians and Germany's government at all levels to help rescue my friend Hung-Po Liu and tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners whose lives are in danger.

There have been several successful cases in other countries in terms of the rescue of Falun Gong practitioners, such as Mr. Zhao Ming from Ireland, Ms. Cuiying Zhang from Australia, and Mr. Shenli Lin from Canada. Justice will definitely subdue evil. We are confident that with the help from kind-hearted people in the world, the evil persecution will soon be at an end.
