Radio Australia Reports 18 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested for Television Broadcast

April 3, 2002

(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report by Radio Australia on April 2, Chinese police have arrested 18 Falun Gong practitioners who were alleged to have been connected with the broadcasting of two films praising the [Falun Gong] group on a city's cable television network. The state media that released this news did not publish the names of the eighteen people, and none of them have been prosecuted. AFP says that the [interruption] of the airwaves in the northeastern city of Changchun last month was seen as a major propaganda coup for the Falungong group.

Falun Gong has been brutally repressed in China for almost three years. Since China banned Falun Gong in July 1999, human rights organizations estimate that hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners have been detained in prisons and thousands sent to labor camps.
