Torture of Dafa Practitioners at the First Detention Center in Huhehaote City, Inner Mongolia

June 7, 2002

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a female Falun Gong practitioner. I was illegally detained on March 6, 2001. Xincheng Police Station in Huhohaote City handled the case. They confiscated the following items from me: cash in the amount of 3200 Yuan [The average monthly income in urban China is about 500 Yuan], my cellular phone and pager, together with a PC and a high-speed printer. They didn't give me a receipt. The person who handled this was a female police officer named Li Ping.

At the end of September 2001, I was transferred from the First Detention Center to Inner Mongolia's Wuchuan County Detention Center. At the same time, other female practitioners were sent there including: Lu Changnu (age 57), Zhang Guilan (age 61), Li Xinhua, and Kong Qiaoyun. One day the Police Detective Captain went there and beat the five of us without any reason. They would not even let a 61-year-old lady go; all of us got slapped hard again and again until this policeman got tired. Even the guards there said that it was too cruel. After 15 days at Wuchuan, Ms. Zhang Guilan was sent back to the First Detention Center. Then they forced her to pay 150 Yuan as a boarding fee but little food was given to her.

Eyewitness Account of the Torture at Huhehaote City:

During the more than one year of illegal detention, I have been forced to wear shackles from a few days to a month. Wearing shackles makes it very difficult if not impossible to move around, I could not stand up, lie down, or sit straight. Sometimes the cuffs chafed me to the bone and my hands swelled up to twice their normal size. The shackles also caused a rash over my entire body and the skin on my hip was cracked, bleeding and infected. I itched clean through to my bones and had great difficulty sleeping. It was during this time that the lead policewoman Zhang Xiufang still put more shackles on me for 9 more days. Meanwhile, I had requested the shackles be removed so I could receive medical attention but was turned down by the Station Director. I was once caught for passing on a slip of paper to other practitioners. The policewoman Zhang then ordered me to pay a 500-Yuan fine claiming they would take off the shackles whenever I paid the fine.

In the jail there was a woman (a non- practitioner) with a one-year sentence. After she heard the truth about Falun Gong, she realized that Dafa practitioners were being persecuted. So she helped to pass on Teacher's article that had been jotted down by some practitioners from memory. Then guard Cuiying and policewoman Zhang made her kneel down with the heaviest of shackles, ones that had never been used on women before, and forced her to walk through four cells from Cell No.1 to Cell No.4. They told detainees to insult her. Most people there could not bear to watch the pitiful scene and some began to cry. The policewoman then hit and beat those who were sympathetic to the woman. The police were supposed to uphold the law but instead they beat, verbally abuse and torture detainees.

Persecution Received after Our Hunger Strikes:

On March 25, 2002, eight of us female practitioners started a hunger strike. On the third day the eldest Ms. Zhang Guilan was inhumanly force-fed. Another practitioner refusing to identify herself was shackled as was I, and we were both force-fed twice. Then I was force-fed two more times and by the end my teeth had been loosened, my lips cracked, and my nose was swollen and red from the force they used. When they realized the damage they had done they sent me to the First Labor Education Hospital for treatment. The jail took away my money order of 810 Yuan supposedly for the medical care.

At the hospital, after the original intravenous infusion, they put a tube into my nose for liquid feeding. They continued to do so even though I was bleeding profusely, filling up half a pan with my blood. Then they removed the tube until the afternoon and I was force-fed this way four more times. The last time, they inserted the tube incorrectly and I almost suffocated. Each time they tied my hands to the bed. Failing with the nose tube, they changed to force-feeding me milk twice a day. Each time three female criminals pinched my nose shut, pulled down my lower jaw, or dropped milk through a large syringe into my mouth. Because I refused to cooperate, they (Sun Xiaojie and Wangying among them) would slap me. They squeezed my cheeks and yanked open my jaw with such force they further damaged my mouth. Then they tried to force-feed me antibiotics without success. So they strategically placed a needle so every time I moved my tongue I received an injection. I had so many needle punctures I was spitting out blood. On another occasion they had 7 or 8 people force feeding me; my hands were tied to the bed, some sat on my arms, some on legs, and other on my stomach, while some squeezed my nose and others pierced my upper lips with needles. My mouth was severely injured with blood everywhere. After this I could not get up off the bed and had to urinate right there. They tied me to the bed to daily to force-feed me 5 or 6 bottles of fluids. When I struggled to pull out the needle, they plunged the needle back into my arm. Sometimes in a day I would receive 10 or more injections. My two arms were full of needle punctures. After 20 days of hunger strikes, I began to vomit. They said it was the stomach and gallbladder fluids. They refused to release me until I had vomited for 28 days. My family gave their bail guarantee and took me home. I went from 140 pounds to 70 pounds from that year of detention and torture. Other practitioners could hardly recognize me afterwards.

On April 25, 2002, 3 months after my release, the police wanted to stay at my home to watch me but my family refused. While I was at home recovering, police would come to harass my family; two police patrol cars and a few motorcycle police were constantly in my neighborhood. Four days later, although I was still very weak, I had to jump off the roof and run away from my home. Later I heard that the public security police were around at many road crossings of Linhe and Huhehaote areas searching for me. They also ordered my family to look for me.
