- Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Zhao, male, is a teacher at Zhangye Medical School (now called "Zhangye Advanced Medical Training School". In March of 2002, he was sent to Labor Camp No. 1 of Gansu Province, also known as the Pingantai Labor Camp, for illegal "reeducation" through labor. He was confined to group No. 1, team No. 1, of the No. 2 brigade. To force Zhang to write a pledge letter, the guards incited drug addict inmates in the group to punch and kick him. They also stripped him, forced him to stand outdoors, and poured cold water on him. Zhang Zhao's entire body was swollen and covered with black and purple bruises from the torture. In less than a week he became incontinent and suffered a serious mental breakdown. Afterwards, he was sent to Lanzhou City Labor Reeducation Hospital (a.k.a. Kangfu Hospital). Seven days later, he was brought back to Pingantai and was put under 24-hour close watch.
- Falun Dafa practitioner Guo Guangli, male, is over 30 years old. He works in the No. 5 Construction Company of Tianshui City, Gansu Province. Because he appealed to higher authorities, he was sent to team No. 1, of the No. 2 brigade of the Ping'antai Labor Camp for illegal "reeducation" through labor. Because he refused to stop practicing Falun Gong, thereby spoiling the bonus given to team No. 1, he was beaten and tortured with cruel instruments at the end of 2001. The resulting injury to one leg left him crippled. Other practitioners beaten at that time included Wu Jingru and Wang Fulun.
- Ma Yuefen, male, 46 years old, is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Jinchang City, Gansu Province. He was arrested in March 2002 and illegally sentenced to three years of "reeducation" through labor. On June 18, 2002, he was sent to the No. 3 brigade of the Ping'antai Labor Camp. Upon his arrival, guards instigated criminals led by Ma Chenglin to beat him all night, resulting in a bone fracture in his left foot, which made it difficult for him to walk. Still, the guards denied his request for a leave and forced him to do hard labor, claiming that he feigned the injury.
After Ma Yuefen was arrested, a fire was purposely set in front of the door to his home, yet police and firefighters on the scene would not put it out. Instead, in an attempt to frame Falun Dafa, they claimed that Ma started the fire to burn his own two children.
Over a dozen practitioners are still detained in the No. 3 brigade of the Ping'antai Labor Camp.
