Canadian Practitioners to Hold News Conference in Parliament Hill on Hong Kong Trial

Aug. 14, 2002

(Clearwisdom.net) Joined by Member of Parliament, Falun Gong practitioners in Ottawa will hold a news conference on Wednesday (August 14) morning inside the capital's Parliament Hill to unveil evidence of false accusations by Hong Kong authorities against Swiss and Hong Kong Falun Gong practitioners.

They will also call upon the Hong Kong authorities to immediately dismiss the false charges and offer an open apology to the practitioners involved.

Video footage of the practitioners' arrest will be released, showing Beijing-style police tactics and violent repression emerging in Hong Kong.

On Tuesday evening, a vigil was held in front of the Chinese Embassy. A TV station stayed for over 2 hours to cover the event.

Ottawa practitioner joined hunger strike in Hong Kong

Ottawa local, Lucy Zhou, is among Falun Gong practitioners in Hong Kong who began a 54-hour hunger strike on Monday to protest against the Jiang regime for pressuring the territory into bringing false criminal charges against 16 practitioners. They will receive verdicts on August 15.

Lucy travelled to Hong Kong last week to show support to fellow practitioners.

"This trial should have never existed from the first place. The nature of the trial is not a civil or even political in the normal sense; it is in reality of prosecution of good people's effort to stop the killing of innocent people. It is alarming because it is happening in a supposedly democratic society that has a tradition of freedoms and the rule-of-law." said Lucy.
