Ophthalmology departments in various hospitals in Zhengzhou City, the
provincial capital of Henan Province, were recently over-crowded as Pink Eye
[a contagious, epidemic form of acute conjunctivitis] patients packed
every inch of the ophthalmology department's diagnostic offices. This disease
is also spreading to east and south Henan Province. Half of the students in a
school in east Henan Province contracted the disease; in a factory with over
200 workers in Luohei City, all the workers got it.
Pink Eye disease was rapidly spreading in Haikou City, Hainan Province at
the end of July. The number of patients reached at least 7,000. Currently, new
cases of the disease have appeared in cities and counties of Wenchang, Wanning
and Chengmai, and it continues to spread in Hainan Province.
Pink Eye disease suddenly became epidemic in Shenzhen City, Guandong
Province. The number of Pink Eye patients in every major hospital increased
sharply, multiplying last week. Long waiting lines formed outside the
ophthalmology department and there was a shortage of the special eye-drops
needed to treat the disease.
According to records from major general and specialty hospitals in
Guangzhou City, Guandong Province, Guangzhou recently entered a peak period of
Pink Eye. According to statistics, five hundred more people catch the disease
every day. Over 15,000 Pink Eye patients visited 12 major hospitals in
Guanzhou in August.
