Member of European Parliament Piia-Noora Kauppi Expresses Concern Over the Persecution of Falun Gong

Nov. 10, 2003

(Clarwisdom.net) After Luo Gan visited Finland in September and faced a criminal complaint for genocide and crimes of torture for his role in the persecution of Falun Gong through "610-office", practitioners in Finland contacted the Finnish government, the parliament and also the Finnish members of the European Parliament to clarify the facts about the lawsuit. Here is a response from the member of the European Parliament, Mrs. Piia-Noora Kauppi.

Thank you for contacting and for the facts that you sent concerning the visit of Luo Gan in Finland and the charges that are targeted against him.

The measures which China has taken against Falun Gong, especially with the systematic persecution beginning in 1999, are not only strictly condemnable but also very concerning. Just as you stated in the letter, the international community has brought into focus the measures of China last time this spring through United Nations and condemned them. European Parliament has also seen in 2002 human rights reports that the one-party-system of People's Republic of China is responsible for the repression and severe violations of religious freedom.

Despite this the international community has not been able to sufficiently pressure the Chinese government to have it take concrete action, so that the persons guilty in the persecution of Falun Gong could be brought to bear full responsibility for their actions according to the principles of constitutional state. On the contrary, according to the latest autonomous and reliable reports, Chinese government continues its repression against Falun Gong.

Something needs to be done, so that justice would be served and the persecution against Falun Gong could be stopped. Therefore I am interested to help you in your legal fight against Luo Gan, if a suitable opportunity is offered. Let's continue to be in contact regarding this issue.

With kind co-operative regards

Piia-Noora Kauppi

Member of European Parliament
