(Clearwisdom.net) During Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong, Jiang has always used "admiration for science" as a kind of political tool. How does Jiang actually "admire science?"
Jiang Zemin promoted his own son to the post of associate director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His son has no academic achievements, however, he has become a leader of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Jiang Zemin let his only son invest and manage factories using state funds. His hands have extended into many high-tech fields, including telecommunications, fiber optics, and computer chips. He fills his own pockets by trading power for money. According to an article in the Daily Telecommunication of England, the most profitable transaction Jiang Mianheng has made was selling 12.5% of Netcom Telecommunications Company stock to Rupert Murdoch at the price of 230 million pounds (about 370 million dollars).
Jiang Zemin also let his son hold the associate general director position for the project to put a man in space. Jiang Mianheng said that although he does not "do research work in this field," four years ago, the chief of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Lu Yongxiang still "gave me the important task of being involved in the man-in-space project." While winning a promotion and getting rich, Jiang is taking credit in the Chinese media for the efforts to put a man in space.
Author Zhang Jiadun pointed out in 2002 that Jiang Mianheng is pushing towards a Chinese network that is independent of the Internet, intending to establish a huge firewall to block and screen all information coming from overseas. On the eve of China's National Day, Jiang Mianheng went to the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and listened to the reports from this center. Jiang expressed his praise to the center and gave suggestions for its future development. It is said that he especially mentioned the further development of monitoring technology. At present, a company with close ties to Jiang Mianheng is spending large amounts of money to develop something called the "Golden Shield Project," which would block off the Internet in Mainland China.
Jiang Mianheng's promotions, getting rich and seeking the limelight are just reflections of corruption, but his goal of blocking the Internet in China is a crime against every Chinese citizen who uses the Internet. The so-called "Golden Shield Project," which is being developed using the Chinese people's hard-earned money, directly infringes on Chinese people's right to information, cutting them off from overseas views and subjecting them to propaganda from Jiang's regime. When people's right to information is deprived and when people are deceived, Jiang's regime can persecute people at will and does not need to worry about their crimes being exposed.
Especially during the four years of the persecution of Falun Gong, Jiang's regime has forced all state-run media to slander and abuse Falun Gong, instigated hatred against them, organized the "610 Office"* to carry out the persecution, conducted brainwashing, and tortured and killed Falun Gong practitioners all over the country. This has caused the deaths of over 800 people. At the same time, Jiang's regime has blocked all channels for the Chinese people to learn about the bloody persecution, and savagely persecuted Falun Gong practitioners who expose the truth. Jiang is spending a large amount of the people's hard-earned money to develop software for blocking the Internet, hiring Internet spies, and covering up his crimes in persecuting Falun Gong.
Is this what Jiang's regime is referring to in its so-called "admiration for science"? When science is used as a tool for corruption and persecution, is there any hope for science in China?
*The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems.
