China News Services News reported on August 4 in Beijing: Today, the temperature in Hangzhou, Nanchang, Changsha, and Wuhan reached 100 to 104 F. The continuously record-breaking high temperatures have continued for more than a month and left these regions with a severe drought, the likes of which have not been seen in many years.

Based on historic data, temperature in most areas in China this summer was abnormally high. The absolute highest temperature and average temperature surpassed the historic record in a large area including Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and the northeastern part of Hubei, the eastern and southern part of Hunan, the southern part of Jiansu, the southern part of Anhui, Shanghai, the northern part of Guangdong, and the eastern part of Guangxi.

Moreover, the precipitation in the four provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Hunan this year was the third lowest year since 1954. The extended high temperatures plus the scarce rainfall has accelerated the development of drought. Zhejiang, Fujian, and Hunan experienced the worst summer drought since 1971. The drought in Jiangxi is the worst of its kind in a hundred years.
