An Eighty-Year-Old Practitioner Says, "I Can Do a Lot for Falun Dafa, Too."

Jan. 2, 2004 |   By a Practitioner from Australia

(Clearwisdom.net) A Daughter's Note: My mother is eighty-years-old. Since she took up Falun Dafa one year ago, she has never missed a day in studying the Fa, doing the exercises, and sending forth righteous thoughts. In terms of truth clarification, she has come a long way, from not knowing what to do, to overcoming barriers, taking initiative, and finding her own path. There are many touching stories. She spent several days writing about her own experiences cultivating during the Fa-rectification.

Today I attended a large-scale group practice with my daughter. It is held at the beginning of every month. After the practice, she took me to Chinatown and then she went on to do something else. I saw two fellow practitioners distributing materials, so I did the same. Soon it was all done and I was very happy. When I first arrived in Australia, I blushed whenever I talked to strangers. Now I feel very comfortable distributing materials in a public place like this.

Some time ago, many practitioners were working at getting signatures to rescue relatives held in China. I was determined to go along and help, but I am not well educated. I am usually very shy and quiet. What should I do? As soon as my daughter brought the petition forms and relevant material, I walked out of my door with them. But I did not know where to go. I just walked along a street until I almost got to a dead end. I did not see many people along the way. So I turned around and walked back on the same path since I was not sure how to find my way back. It was getting dark. I said to myself, so many practitioners are waiting for us to rescue them. I should do something. On my way home, I got seven signatures.

On the following day, my daughter did not have to work. She showed me around so I would not get lost. After that, I started to talk to people to get signatures. The first few days I had many people sign. I was very happy. Then one day nobody signed. I was very disappointed. I did not want to go out the following day. Then I realized, no, I cannot do that. I was not being responsible as a Dafa practitioner. How could I be deterred by a little bit of difficulty? I did not live up to the mercy of Teacher Li. How can I be considered a practitioner? I went to the same place at 9:00 a.m. the following day and got the most signatures so far on this day.

As a result, many westerners recognized me. Every time they walked by, they said hi and patted my shoulder. I couldn't remember their names and asked people to sign again. They gestured that they had done it already. I also got to know an elderly Chinese couple. They also practice Falun Gong, but as they still want to go back to China, they did not want to do it in public to avoid troubles. My daughter and I practiced with them and with a western practitioner. We went to the beach to practice, rain or shine.

On Sundays many people go to the beach. We went there to do the exercises and distribute materials. We came across many people from China visiting Australia. Some would not listen to my daughter talk about Falun Gong. When they saw me, they thought I looked really good. I told them that my health improved after practicing Falun Gong. My gray hairs have grown darker and my skin more delicate. I used to be opposed to my daughter practicing. It was only after I read the book Zhuan Falun that I realized that Falun Gong is really great. Somehow they accepted that.

A few days ago, on World Human Rights Day, I participated in Dafa activities. From the City Hall to Chinatown, then to the Chinese Consulate, I walked with everyone. After sending forth righteous thoughts, I went home. Although I am not well educated, I always find things that I can do. It will soon be the Chinese New Year and I am thinking about sending truth materials to China. We all have our paths to walk.
