Brutal Beating, Force-Feeding and Poisonous Injections -- Death of Dafa Practitioner Meng Xiao in Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu City

Jan. 27, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) On December 26, 2003, Dafa practitioner Liu Chengjun was tortured to death in Changchun City, Jilin Province, and Dafa practitioners around the globe protested the atrocity. Fearing international media exposure, many police officers in China refrained from more brutal means of torture but some perpetrators in certain areas are still indulging in fanatic persecution. In early January 2004, Dafa practitioner Meng Xiao was tortured to death.

Ms. Meng Xiao, a college graduate, was a 37-year-old employee/division head of the Chengdu Steel Factory. After being brutally tortured, force-fed, tied up and injected with poisonous drugs, Meng Xiao died between January 8 and January 12, 2004 in Jintang County, Chengdu City.

On November 19, 2003, with orders from the "610 Office," police officers from the Chengdu City Riot Control Group and Jintang County Police Department abducted Meng Xiao from her rented home on Hengping Street, Jintang County. The perpetrators from the "610 Office" and from the police department tortured her cruelly. After saying "Falun Dafa is great," Meng Xiao remained silent despite the savage tortures used on her, which earned the respect from some police who still have kindly thought.

At Jintang County Detention Center, Meng Xiao was tortured for holding a hunger strike. The guards sent her to 201 Hospital where she was forcibly injected with poisonous drugs that damage the central nervous system. Everyday she was injected with two doses of Valium and one dose of Thorazine* [also known as Aminazin, Chlorpromazine, Largactil, Thorazine or Wintermin; see below for further details], a strong tranquilizer and psychotropic drug used in the treatment of psychiatric patients. After the injection, Meng Xiao had constant body aches, muddle-headedness and muscle weakness. She could not regain mind clarity until after two or three days of sleeping. Right after she came to, she would immediately be sent back to the hospital to suffer the same torture and would have the same symptoms all over again. Meng Xiao was at death's door several times. Later, after she had clarified the truth to the doctor, he stopped giving her poisonous injections and the symptoms disappeared.

The police then decided to send her to No. 1 People's Hospital in Jintang County for intravenous infusion, after which Meng Xiao went into coma for two to three days. She experienced body aches and vomited after she regained consciousness. She also had slurred speech. The doctor's diagnosis stated that Meng Xiao had only two to three more days to live. Meng Xiao's family begged the police to release her, but the police replied, "Only our superior can determine if she can be released, what we say doesn't count." The authorities for Jintang County Detention Center asked the Chengdu City "610 Office" if Meng Xiao was to be released. The response was, "Just let her die at the hospital or detention center. Don't release her!" As a result, the abuse against her escalated. Jiang Zengyao, head of the detention center, said at the detention center, "It's impossible for Meng Xiao to get out with a hunger strike; if she is going to die, she'll have to die at the detention center or the hospital." At the hospital, numerous police officers tied up Meng Xiao and gave her injections. Meng Xiao was seen covered with bruises and deep cuts and blood on her hands and feet after each injection. It is also heard her ribs were broken from beating.

On January 8, 2004, Meng Xiao was again sent to No. 1 People's Hospital in Jintang County and never returned to the detention center. It was later learned that between January 8 and January 12, 2004, Meng Xiao was tortured to death at the hospital and her body, which was covered with bruises, was immediately cremated without her family's knowledge.

Meng Xiao began practicing Falun Gong in March 1999. On November 17, 1999, Meng Xiao and other Dafa practitioners unfurled a banner that read "Falun Dafa stands in the world forever." Afterwards, Meng Xiao was illegally detained and sentenced to two years in prison. She was brutally beaten countless times in Beijing; she was cuffed with her hands across her back, shocked with electric batons; the police banged her head against the wall while grabbing her hair, and they tied her up. During an unconstitutional trial, Meng Xiao refused to cooperate and recited in a loud voice "When the Fa is Right" (from Essentials for Further Advancement), and the court police fanatically beat and kicked her.

On April 22, 2000, Meng Xiao was sent to Sichuan Province Female Prison in Yangmahe, Jianyang. During this time, Meng Xiao was detained in solitary confinement numerous times for a very long time because she did the Dafa exercises and upheld Dafa. The authorities and inmates beat her on countless occasions, including dragging her down the stairway, shocking her with electric batons, tying her with ropes, throwing her outside in the winter with only thin clothes on, and hanging her on the window with her hands behind her back for several days and nights.

After her sentence expired, Meng Xiao was fired by the Chengdu Steel Factory and was sent to a brainwashing class in Tangchang Town, Pixian County, where she was tortured until she suffered bone fractures and she couldn't stand up. Authority from her factory picked her up when she was on the brink of death. They locked her in the security office and then the factory hospital to inject her with big doses of drugs that damage the central nervous system. Later, Meng Xiao broke free with righteous thoughts but was forced into exile for more than one year.

On November 19, 2003, Meng Xiao was arrested in Jintang County and was later tortured to death. The details of her torture are being investigated.

Meng Xiao's parents live in Xichong County. Her father is paralyzed and her mother had a nervous breakdown.

* Important Note on Thorazine:

The psychotropic drug Thorazine (also known as Aminazin, Chlorpromazine, Largactil, Thorazine or Wintermin) is an anti psychotic drug and used in the treatment of psychiatric patients. Thorazine may result in rather severe side effects, such as tardive dyskinesia (irreversible neurological disorder, afflicting the involuntary muscle movements, such as eyelids, tongue, arms, legs, mouth, lips, tongue, etc.), tardive dementia (a global deterioration of mind and mental faculties caused by the drugs), general dulling of awareness, emotional numbing, and cognitive dysfunction.-

According to Amnesty International's medical advice, these drugs are not in themselves sinister. There are specific disorders for which they are prescribed, but only qualified doctors should administer them, and they must be monitored. Given that Falun Gong practitioners are subject to torture and maltreatment, and in the absence of evidence that they suffer from any psychiatric disorder, it is evident that the administration of such drugs are a punitive measure. In other words, Falun Gong practitioners have been inappropriately administered psychotropic drugs in order to punish them for their spiritual belief in Falun Gong.
