Canadian MP Rob Anders: Canada Must Not Become a Safe Haven for War Criminals and Torturers

Jan. 28, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 20, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners and their attorney Mr. David Matas jointly held a press conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. They requested that the Canadian government hold Chinese officials that persecute Falun Gong accountable, in keeping with Canada's Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Program (CAHWCP). Human rights attorney David Matas announced that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has placed the case on file. Those suspected of persecution crimes against Falun Gong in China will be denied entry into Canada. If they are discovered entering Canada illegally, RCMP will immediately launch an investigation and possibly take legal action. Member of Parliament Mr. Rob Anders wrote a statement in support of the action on that day. He said, Canada must not become a safe haven for war and criminals and tortures. Below is the statement by Mr. Anders.

January 20, 2004,

I would like to express my support for an initiative by Falun Gong practitioners. We should prohibit those involved in torture and crimes against humanity in China from coming to Canada. Senior officials responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong members in China should be indicted for crimes against humanity.

Those that have played an active role in these atrocities should not be granted entry to this country. If no action is taken against those who commit these crimes, there will be little to stop them from continuing.

Canada must not become a safe haven for war criminals and torturers. Our good will as a nation must not be taken advantage of. We not will tolerate the presence of heinous criminals in our country.

Rob Anders

MP for Calgary West
