In a Few Words: About Waist Drum Troupes

Dec. 15, 2004 |   By an Overseas Falun Gong practitioner

(Clearwisdom.net) There is no question that the waist drum troupe in our parades greatly shocks the evildoers. Too big of a waist drum troupe, though, or too many dancers, especially when they outnumber the exercise demonstration group, may make people miss the appropriate focus on Falun Dafa itself.

Lots of people watching our parades are attracted by the waist drum troupe and have ignored the exercise demonstrations. Many fortunate people can learn what Falun Gong is all about from the handouts practitioners distribute. There are also people who see Falun Gong on TV or on other media reporting on our parades. Would they misunderstand and think that Falun Gong is a group of waist drummers or dancers?

Two recent incidences I encountered during parades made me think about this issue. Once after a parade ended, we met another group of parade participators (not practitioners). Their drummer waved his drumsticks at us indicating, "we are both drummers." Another time, when practitioners were distributing truth clarification flyers, one person said, "I know Falun Gong." Then he pretended to play a drum.

When we are clarifying the truth to people, we need to make sure we let people clearly understand what Falun Gong is all about and why we are clarifying the truth to them. Though a waist drum troupe is a great way to clarify the truth, I think we should not take it to an extreme; rather, we need to pay attention to the effectiveness of clarifying the truth to people.

The above is my personal understanding. Please, kindly point out any mistakes.
