Epoch Times: Beijing's Accusation of Taiwan's Involvement in Falun Gong TV Interception Denounced as Nonsense

Dec. 6, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) According to a report from Epoch Times (a global Chinese newspaper) on December 2, 2004, Beijing TV Channel One was tapped into and broadcast Falun Gong truth-clarification video programs. Viewers in different areas reported seeing varying lengths of the video, from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. The International Herald Leader under the flag of Xinhua News Net claimed that Taiwan's Intelligence Agency secretly trained Falun Gong practitioners with the technology to tap into the TV signal. Officials from Taiwan's Department of Defense denounced the accusation as nonsense.

According to the Epoch Times report, around 8 p.m. on November 20, Beijing TV Channel One was intercepted. The newspaper's readers in Mainland China said that they first saw a program about animals and suddenly a program about Rome's tyrant Nero. The latter was a Falun Gong truth-clarification video program entitled, "Between Heaven and Earth." Viewers in different areas said the length of the video varied from 10 minutes to 30 minutes and the main content exposed the lies surrounding the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation incident.

The International Herald Leader, under the flag of Xinhua News Net, accused Taiwan's Intelligence Agency for "training" Falun Gong practitioners and said the interception was done from Taiwan's mountainous region. The report also condemned Taiwan for not only allowing Falun Gong to be legally registered, but also providing facilities for its activities.

In response to the Mainland's official accusation, the Director of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, a Professor from the Department of Economics, National Taiwan University, Chang Ching-his, said the interception of the Mainland's TV satellite signal has nothing to do with the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, but he did not exclude the possibility that it might have been done by some individual practitioners or supporters of Falun Gong. He stated that the accusation against Taiwan's Intelligence Agency for training Falun Gong practitioners is completely groundless.

Officials from Taiwan's Department of Defense also denounced as "nonsense" the accusation that Taiwan Intelligence Agency trained Falun Gong practitioners.
