Persecution of Model Teacher Li Fengmei at Gaizhou City, Liaoning Province

Feb. 9, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Fengmei is 40 years old, a foreign language teacher at the Xiongyue High School, Gaizhou City, Liaoning Province. She was responsible for teaching the graduating class. After attaining Dafa in 1997, she disciplined herself by the Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance principles of Dafa, and has a very good reputation. Students have transferred to the school just for the purpose of attending her class.

On April 25, 1999 before the persecution started, after learning some Falun Gong practitioners in Tianjing City were illegally arrested, she went to Beijing to exercise her constitution right to appeal to the government. After returning from making her appeal, the school authority and the local "610 Office" plotted to send her to the Shuangtaizi Brainwashing Center in Gaizhou City. After discovering the school officials' plans concerning their teacher, many of Li Fengmei's students supported her by boycotting the school and expressed their will to transfer to other schools if Ms. Li was forced out of her job at the school. After hearing of the students' rejection of their plans, the school leaders held a meeting with her to threaten and intimidate her. Under strong pressure, Li wrote a "guarantee" against her wishes. Later, she quickly realized it was wrong to write such a guarantee to renounce her belief in Falun Dafa. She felt she should clarify the truth of the persecution of Falun Dafa without fear. So she wrote three letters of solemn declarations, that she would continue to practice her belief in Falun Dafa and sent them to the school leader, the Gaizhou Educational Committee, and the Xiongyue Public Security Bureau separately.

Learning that Li Fengmei retracted her decision to give up her practice of Falun Dafa, Wu Lihua, the head of the Xiongyue Public Security Bureau, led police officers to the school to arrest Li. Li shouted on the second floor to the police officers, "I have done nothing wrong. If you dare to arrest me, I'll jump down from here." Police officers pretended to withdraw but actually hid themselves, and when Li walked down the stairs, they seized her. At that moment, Li's husband Yi Tieming, a doctor, came to where she was. But, instead of stopping the police officers from arresting his wife, he beat his wife in front of them out of his fear of being implicated.

After being taken to the Gaizhou Detention Center, Li Fengmei went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was released four days later. Under intense pressure, her husband wrote five guarantees for her and submitted 500 yuan [approximately one month salary of an urban Chinese worker] as bond.

Since Li Fengmei resisted the authorities' persecution against her, Wu Lihua kicked her twice and ordered police officers to beat her up. In the brainwashing center, she was discovered to be pregnant. Doctor diagnosed her as being pregnant for approximately two months. However, police officers cruelly ordered doctors to perform an abortion against her will. Li Fengmei begged them: "Why you are so cruel? All human beings are delivered by their parents; we all have brothers and sisters. This infant is a life who belongs to me and my husband, you have no right to do this."

Wu Lihua was released to go home, and the authorities asked her husband to control her very strictly. Her husband, Yi Tieming, promised Wu Lihua that he would take his wife to have their baby aborted and then send Li Fengmei back to the brainwashing center. Knowing that her own husband was working in collusion with the police officers to arrest her again, she left home while her husband was working on a night shift to avoid further persecution and having to undergo a forced abortion of her baby.

On August 21, 2003, Li Fengmei was abducted again by police officers at the Bayuquan, Yingkou City, and is now detained at the Bayuquan Detention Center. This center blocks the passage of information very tightly and does not allow family visits. Li Fengmei is still suffering there.
