Why Did Zhou Chunsheng Die So Suddenly? Karmic Retribution

March 31, 2004

A man named Zhou Chunsheng lived on the 11th floor of No.3 hostel, Shandong Teacher's Training College, Shandong Province. Zhou was in his sixties and had been doing casual work for a long time. On February 8th of this year, he suddenly died.

Zhou's death surprised many people. He had been very healthy all along, so why did he die so suddenly?

In fact, Zhou was infamous for his way of life. He had indulged in eating, drinking, womanizing, and gambling, and he had also been picked by the police to do all the dirty work for them when they offered him a part time position as a security officer. Abusing the authority that this position gave him, Zhou often took food and other goods from shops without paying for them. His life hit rock bottom when he started helping the local police to persecute Dafa practitioners by removing posted Dafa materials and unlawfully arresting the practitioners. He often boasted of his 'achievements', such as when he and a few other scoundrels arrested four practitioners for putting up Dafa posters on New Year's Eve of 2003. He and the others received a large reward from the police. Yet in obtaining money through such foul means, Zhou had forgotten the heavenly principle of "good is rewarded and evil is punished."

Shortly after the 2003 Spring Festival, a lot of Dafa posters were put up on electrical posts along North Street near Shandong Teacher's Training College. Zhou took it upon himself to tear down the posters and turn them in to the police. When one practitioner tried to talk him out of doing more damaging things to Dafa, he simply turned a deaf ear and said, "I will see that those Falun Gong practitioners are caught and sent to prison." In seriousness, the Dafa practitioner warned him, "If you continue to do so, heaven will punish you."

Some time later, the practitioner went to see him again and asked him not to continue doing those damaging things to Dafa. After that, Zhou seemed to control himself for a while. But, enticed by lucrative offers by the police, Zhou again involved himself with persecuting practitioners for money in autumn 2003, and was once again paid a large sum. When winter came, he discovered that he was seriously ill.

In early 2004, he had a check-up and found that he had cancer. His hospital stay drained away all of the money obtained from arresting Dafa practitioners. Since he was without money, the hospital discharged him and did not continue his treatment. The police also refused to cover his medical costs. Zhou realized that this was his own karmic retribution, but by then it was already too late. On February 8, Zhou died, and after wasting away to nothing but skin and bones.

[Editors' Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." The universe will reward actions that are in harmony with this principle, while actions such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution.]
