The "Imperial County Falun Dafa Week" celebration will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the El Centro Public Library, 539 W. State St.
The celebration will feature demonstrations and free instruction of falun dafa exercises, a "Journey of Falun Dafa" photo exhibit, "waist drum and traditional dancing" and a keynote address by El Centro Mayor Ray Castillo.
Falun dafa, also known as falun gong, is an advanced exercise and meditation practice system of mind and body based on ancient wisdom, according to a press release.
Li Hongzhi introduced it to the public in 1992. Taught free of charge, falun dafa is practiced in more than 60 countries by some 100 million people, the press release states.
In addition to five sets of gentle exercises that improve energy circulation in the body, falun dafa emphasizes the cultivation of one's moral character through following the universal principles of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance, according to the release.
