[Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Li Xiumin Illegally Taken to Brainwashing Class

Ms. Li Xiumin was forced to become destitute and homeless in order to avoid unlawful detention. She then called her mother to designate a place where she could meet her child. Unfortunately, she did not get to see her child at all.

What had happened? In order to entrap Li Xiumin, police in Shijiazhuang City had been tapping her mother's phone for a long time. On the morning of July 9, staff from the "610 Office" (1) in Shijiazhuang City arrested Li Xiumin as she was on her way to meet her child. She was taken to Huaidi Police Substation in Yuhua District and then transferred to a brainwashing class in Luquan County.

[Beijing City] Falun Dafa Practitioners Detained

On the evening of May 13, Beijing practitioner Ms. Tan Huan and another practitioner are reported to have been shadowed by a group of policemen from the National Security Bureau and Xicheng Public Security Branch in Beijing. After they followed the two practitioners to their home, the policemen rushed in and searched the place. They confiscated everything in the room, including a computer, about six printers, hard drives and recorders, without justification. They did not even leave a piece of paper in the room. When Tan Huan's father was told that his daughter might have been arrested, he went to the Xicheng Public Security Branch, asking for his daughter, where the police did not admit to arresting her. Tan Huan was taken to the No.2 Women's Detention Center in Beijing City. By now, she has been officially placed under arrest. The police would not even admit to which procuratorate was handling the case.

[Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioner Lu Yali Detained Many Times

Local police searched the home of Lu Yali from Lianjiangkou Farm Prison in the suburban area of Jiamusi City on the morning of July 7, 2004. Falun Dafa books and materials were confiscated.

Previously, Lu Yali had been detained many times for practicing Falun Dafa. On July 20, 1999, Lu Yali had gone to Beijing to appeal for the rights of Falun Gong. Local police escorted her back to her home, detained her for fifteen days and fined her 1,000 Yuan.

During the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday of 2000, Lu Yali was arrested while visiting fellow practitioners. She was shackled to heating pipes for over two hours. In October 2000, she was abducted while she was explaining the facts about Falun Dafa and sentenced to two years of forced labor.

[Laishui County, Hebei Province] Three Falun Dafa Practitioners Detained After Completing Terms Imposed on Them

Laishui practitioners Jin Rihong, Zhang Xiuqi, Fang Yongzhen and Lu Guifen are being held in custody in the Laishui Detention Center. Presently, these practitioners are on hunger strike to protest against their illegal detention. Jin Rihong has been spitting up blood because of her mistreatment. However, the police have not released her yet. Fang Yongzhen and Lu Guifen were detained more than fourteen months beyond the initial terms imposed on them.

[Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Two Falun Dafa Practitioners Arrested

[Anshun City, Guizhou Province] Yan Jiazhen Sent to Forced Labor Camp

[Guiyang City, Guizhou Province] Falun Dafa Practitioners Tortured Physically and Mentally at Yang'ai Labor Farm for Women

Many Falun Dafa practitioners are being kept in custody in Yang'ai Labor Farm for Women [Note: similar to a forced labor camp]. There are about twenty practitioners in Squad Eight alone, with the longest terms running up to 16 years. Officials at the farm coerced practitioners to write the so-called "statements" (2), claiming openly that it is OK to write false statements. However, almost all the practitioners remain very firm in their belief.

The police guards instruct criminal detainees to torture practitioners both physically and mentally. They force practitioners to do hard labor. They beat them up arbitrarily, confine them in the pigsty or lock them up in a small cell. Practitioners do not even have any of life's basic necessities during detention. Their family members are not allowed to meet them or deliver any clothes. When some family members brought clothes anyway, they were torn into pieces or damaged. Practitioners are forced to wear prison uniforms. One practitioner's mother asked to be allowed to see her daughter one last time before she passed away. However, she was refused.

[Inner Mongolia] Duolun County Public Security Bureau Illegally Search Practitioners' Homes

In the evening of July 19, police in Duolun County did a large-scale search of practitioners' homes, including that of Yang Shumin, Li Chengwen, Zhou Ruilin, Wu Yuying, Zhang Xiuling and Junior Xu from the Medicine Company.

Duolun County was the first county in this region where Falun Dafa was introduced and also has the most practitioners. It is also the area where Falun Gong is persecuted the most severely. Qi Jianshe, director of Duolun County Public Security Bureau, and Kou Xiaoping, member of the County Party Committee and head of the "610 Office" (1), are responsible for the search.

Notes:

(1) An agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

(2) Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.
