The documentary, "Plum Blossoms in the Snow," is about how Falun Gong practitioners are treated in contemporary China. A man's tragic fate is narrated by his wife and daughter after he was killed for his belief in Falun Gong. The movie will be shown in Hagatheater, the city museum, during the Gothenburg Film Festival, between the 28th of January and the 5th of February 2005.

"Plum Blossoms in the Snow" is the story of Australian citizen Jane Dai and her little daughter Fadu. Their beloved husband and father, Chen Chenyong, was persecuted to death in China in the year 2001, after he appealed to the Communist regime to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. Despite the risk of reprisals from the Chinese regime, Jane Dai has traveled the world to let people know about her husband's brutal death and about the campaign of genocide against Falun Gong in China. Determined to help millions of families who have lost loved ones just like herself, Ms. Dai has asked for help and support from the international community. Her message is about human rights, appealing for kindness and justice. She acts with a conviction originating from her personal experience, belief, grief and deep insights.

Acclaimed human rights lawyer Georges-Henri Beauthier, well known for his role in the legal process against the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, also has a role in the movie, along with members of parliament and human rights activists.

The title of the movie is inspired by a Chinese poem and alludes to the idea that the persecution will not last: despite the bitter winter, spring is approaching.

"Plum Blossoms in the Snow" is produced by Cinora Films in Gothenburg.
Director and Producer: Elefteria Kalogritsa.
